I find it hilarious how many talking heads seem to believe Tkachuk is a playoff player for some reason. Guy was an utter no show in the majority of the games and threw away the puck blindly in the offensive zone at an incredible rate

If Weegar's only issue is that he makes brain fart plays every now and then, then that is something Sutter will have fixed from his game ASAP.

Didn't Tkachuk break his hand in that fight in game 1 with Klingberg?
Might explain why he wasn't scoring?

Yes. And it was a stupid ####ing fight. So, still his fault for being a blockhead.

His problem was he thought playoff means goon it up…then he got hurt
He has the skills to be a good playoff performer…just being honest

Different circumstances, and both were RFA’s when they arrived, but Lindholm signed a few weeks after being traded here, while Hanafin took over 2 months to sign his extension
My point, both Weegar and Huberdeau can probably be afforded some time to get to know the flames management, city, teammates and really just some damn breathing room before being “traded immediately” if they don’t sign an extension.
This trade was likely a surprise for both. Unlike Tkachuk who was obviously working hand in hand with Treliving on the flames side of things.

He did score a hat trick in Game 1 versus the Oilers. Didn't show up for the other games unfortunately.

Why would it have been in his first fight (Game 1 vs Raffl) and not in his 3rd fight (Game 3 vs Klingberg)? Doubt he would fight twice more if he broke it Game 1.

Yeah, that could just as easily be read as, when his phone rang from Florida (or likely his agent who would have been called by Zito), he thought it was to arrange a time to discuss an extension, but was instead a request to waive his NTC.
Or maybe we're just too paranoid in assuming every player just has Calgary on his no-trade list by default. We were just named the most-liveable city in North America. Maybe we're not so bad afterall.

I didn't expect a haul this big, but I expected a solid return just because a lot of people around hockey don't see Tkachuk objectively or rationally. He's put on a pedestal by many because of his unique attributes and hard-nosed reputation. Game to game though, those things aren't on display all that consistently.

Taking a while to get to 5000

Felt like Tkachuk always tried to become a super pest when playoffs started and got himself hurt a lot.

Fully agree.
I'm also thinking of what their returns would be. Huberdeau to a team he'd sign with? That's worth at least two 1st round picks. Weegar? At least a 1st.
If the Flames walk away from Tkachuk with four 1st round picks and Schwindt, I mean...it's certainly not a bad start to a rebuild.
|
Not only could it net a fantastic return, it prevents all of the concern over trading your star winger and defenceman at the deadline when leading the division and firmly in a playoff spot.
