Gondek is incredibly intelligent and well-spoken, but I'm watching this interview with Darren Krause and she's defending her position on the new arena. This is going to be Farkas' trump card when more and more details leak out on what we're on the hook for. She voted for it and still supports it, Farkas voted against it and he'll ride the public wave of discontent about corporate welfare for billionaire hockey owners.
I don't think it was mentioned in this thread at all, but Woolley mentioned in council last week that the deal they voted on didn't include the parking lot deal that taxpayers are currently footing the bill for. Like how does a major thing like that costing millions of dollars just get by a bunch of smart people?

If you don't advertise your debate, the Con you've invited would feel even less pressure to show up.

ManningErtz out here like he's employed by the War Room, trying to talk up Jeromy Farkas of all people.
Who would vote for this wimp? He looks like he's on the verge of breaking out in tears every time someone disagrees with him in session.

I am and always have been 100% opposed to any public money being gifted to billionaire hockey team owners, but if you think that single issue alone is enough to get me to support Farkas, you are very sadly mistaken.

Yup. This.
Plus Farkas is a grand-standing, whiny, cry-baby.

This is exactly my view as well. Dislike the arena project, think Farkas is only anti arena as it has him on an a opposing view of Nenshi

Nah, Farkas wants to pander to CTF types... he'd oppose anything on the grounds that it involves rubbing two nickels together regardless if where Nenshi or anyone else on council stood. I'm as opposed to billionaire welfare projects as much as anyone but it's not enough for me to want to vote for Farkas all on it's own. I think his temperament is unsuited to the job, or more accurately I think he doesn't have the skill set to properly do the the job.
Frankly, I don't want to vote for Gondek either. She comes off as phony... someone who'll signal she supports something to get your support but then foot drag, ignore, or excuse herself into subsequent inaction. A talker, not a do'er... and yes she voted for the arena subsidies (and takes developer money).
I desperately hope we get a couple of quality candidates entering so that these two aren't our only realistic choices.

What the hell does "the getting-kids-prepped, school-drop-off crowd" even mean?

I think it's just an odd and awkward way of saying "people who are checking Twitter at quarter to nine". If you look at their Twitter timeline, they originally tweeted the story at 7:00am, so this is just a repost of the story.
I believe Twitter will reduce the visibility of an account that tweets out the same content repeatedly so you can't just repost or retweet something if you want it to be seen. They probably thought it was a creative way of saying "In case you missed it earlier".
I've seen other people on Twitter post things like, "for the after work crowd" or "for the evening crowd" when reposting content. It's basically the same as that.

I’ve always wondered why candidates with pretty much no chance even bother, especially running for mayor. Every large city has them in every election. I can understand in small cities and towns, but in cities like Calgary and Edmonton?

only reasonable answer is resume building.
I came in 15th in the race and that's in a city of 1.3 million people!

Thanks for the explanation. I thought it was initially implying she's a Helen Lovejoy type candidate.

So they go from 2% of the votes to 4% and from 14th to 11th position? I still don’t see the point. I remember mayoral candidates in Edmonton and Calgary who had that result, spending money (probably not a lot, which is one of the reasons for doing so poorly) and giving up time to campaign - for what?
