Everyone speeding is even more of a reason why going 5+ under is a terrible idea. Go with the flow of traffic, keep the furthest-left lane clear for anyone going faster than you, and enter/exit at speed. These are simple things completely lost on people.

There are sections and times of day on Deerfoot and Crowchild specifically where the average flow of traffic is 20-30km/hr higher than the speed limit. That’s not “hey look at that speed demon! must be in a rush!” that’s literally everyone going that speed. If you’re going 5-10 under, you’re going 25-40km slower than everyone else, and that makes you a complete hazard.
How many times have we heard that "speed" was factor when it comes to crashes and accidents.

Quote:
Obviously this only applies to good road conditions. But at the end of the day, if you want to sight-see, buy a ticket and ride a tour bus. Don’t take your Golf Cart onto Deerfoot.
Don't quit your day job you'd fail as a comedian.

Well technically speed is a factor in every collision, if you hit something going 30 in a 50, you mighta missed it if you were going slower!

Still driving over the limit and not in a safe manner is speed also.

This is an awesome post. You still see them and it's crazy. Like literally from a time when people didn't have cell phones and an AMA truck would be driving by a broken down car and be like "OMG he's an AMA member, good thing about that sticker, I'll stop and help!!".

There is no reason why these bland Demolition Man Mobiles everywhere cost so much money. (Que supply and demand guy)
It started with the change from "what does a vehicle cost me in total?" to the absurd "what are my monthly payments and I'll just make car payment the rest of my life" mentality when buying vehicles.

New vehicle purchase used to be for those that earned well. Somewhere between 2005 and 2010 it changed to "everyone can afford a new vehicle and NOBODY can afford to NOT purchase a new vehicle!".

This is straight struggler mentality and action in a city. Why would you be like this?

Are you sure you guys just aren't in the senior demographic without knowing it? What is a senior now a days anyways? Is it 60?

Often. But you seem to think the two options are putting around below the speed limit or people weaving in and out of traffic trying to break the land-speed record. I (and most people) are just advocating going with the flow of traffic and getting out of the way if you’re a struggler. If you can’t keep up with the flow of traffic on any given road, from the moment you enter to the moment you exit, you don’t belong on that road and you might not belong behind the wheel.

Stay out of the left lane
Merge at the speed of traffic
Go with the flow of traffic

Simple stuff

"Well...I'm uncomfortable and scared...what else am I supposed to do?"

Well...sorry to say...get off the road.

You're shoving ~3500 pounds of metal around...if you dont think you can handle it, you probably shouldnt be doing it.

Call an Uber.

This assumption has yet to be proven wrong.
There are valid reasons for driving under the speed limit;a rare moment of PF and CHL harmony.

It isn't rare or unique. In these scenarios the fast lane is almost always going 10-15% below the limit.

The driver was being completely logical and the perfect amount of cautious, obviously.

Seriously, if we had been in a big dump truck or something, unable to stop, Mazda dude and his girlfriend in the passenger seat would 100% be dead. But on the go on their merry way, giving no indication that they even noticed.

Mazrim was right everybody, I was wrong.

I am a senior. A motorcycle-riding, scuba-diving senior who’s dived with sharks (no cage) and who’s put his name onto election ballets nine times. I’m not afraid of risk.

Is that what they're handing out at the Train Stations?

Not a jab at you, but sometimes you get these unintentional little jokes.

"I want my toy from crackerack box!!"

Is it crack? Is it cracker? Is crackerack a new thing? It could be anything.

The problem with promoting this idea is that it instigates anger in many drivers that have a tendency to drive with a certain degree of over anxiousness and expectation. We are always going to encounter the odd person, who for whatever reason, age, distraction, uncertainty, mental health, drugs, etc. is driving below the speed limit, and IMO we must learn to live with it, and avoid getting our bowels in an uproar.

And this is what worked for decades, but now for some reason it’s not 20% of drivers being slow, it’s 80%. Driving Deerfoot at any time (outside of rush periods) it’s unreal how many people are ranging 75-90km/hr.

Guessing a “hugging the centreline at 85km/hr all the way to Bragg Creek on a Harley” motorcycle-riding senior?
