All right we’ve helped out the Stars, the Golden Knights, and the Canucks. What else can be done to minimize the Oilers’ chances.
Mangiapane to the Kings or Avalanche?
Andersson to the Jets?

This makes too much sense to me.

I hope Vegas does spend their 2025 pick. That unprotected 2026 pick is the best case scenario in my eyes.

The problem, the reality and the danger with waiting is that other teams get impatient as well (yes...just like YOU) and make their own moves...and if Conny then comes back to them their answer is:
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
"No room left."
"We've made all our moves."
"We're happy with where we're at."
...and he gets what we got for Gaudreau: NOTHING.

2nd + Grush > Johansen + 1st
$4M cap dump in the offseason can get you a 2nd or maybe even a 1st and you have to factor that opportunity cost in.
Puckpedia has $4M for the rest of this season and next values at 33rd OV pick

No way the Flames are big game hunting for high end players that they would trade a 1st rounder for by 2026.
Even if that is a decent mid round pick in 2026, that player isn't helping the Flames till 2030. This piece really may not help a retool/rebuild to be competitive for the new arena and that makes this a huge loss in my eyes. If Miromanov doesn't at least turn out to be a 5/6 guy, that's a lot of nothing for Hanifin before 2027. The hype on him feels Feaster-esque.
I'm starting to think that we're in for a very long rebuild. Tough to spin it, this trade was an L, pending some amazing developments.
|
Dude… the rebuild was always going to take a long time. I think your expectations need adjusting. Also, you can’t point to individual pieces and say “this doesn’t help me in year X, so it’s bad”. We’re trading for futures… they are futures.

As usual an underwhelming return for the Flames. A rebuild is going to be tough when your GM can't maximize returns. Henrique as a rental was worth a first round pick. He seriously couldn't do any better than this?

one thing is certain, Conroy knows what has been on the table from other potential suitors, and disappointed fans only know what their hopes were. One is reality, and one is fantasy.

Maybe that's the best deal. Hanifin isn't that good and this is a rental price. Should have traded him this time last year.

If you try to sell something that you are on the verge of losing for nothing you have to take the best offer given.
Conroy can't make these people pay more and he can't conjure up value out of thin air.
Anyone getting mad at him or saying he got fleeced is way too emotional and needs to get a grip.
Do you really think he turned down better offers?
Lmao

Was going to say exactly the same sort of thing in a much more offensive way. Thanks

Yep, we should be praying they spend their 2025. Bulk up, best the Oilers, Flames get a 2 and a 2026 unprotected pick from a team likely on a downward trend

Not disappointed in Conroy, but disappointed by the market. I have faith that he got the best deal he could and I doubt waiting until Friday would have helped, and could have possibly hurt if desperation was starting to set in.

Let’s say the knights implode next season and their 2025 ends up being 10th. Can they choose to give it to us anyways? Rather than potentially giving up McKenna?

Hanifin has been available since the summer. By this point, the Flames would know who the serious suitors are. He would have circled back to them to get their best offers.
Selling teams do not usually have more leverage on deadline day - sellers can be left without a dance partner if the buyers finds another option. That’s why most significant deals these days are done before deadline day. Nobody wants to be left holding the bag.

Sure, but Vegas gets to 100% decide it.
I’ll give Conroy a B+ overall on his trades.
Toffoli was sneaky good.
Zadorov was in line.
Lindholm was a home run.
Tanev was on the lower end. I would have preferred the Colorado offer.
Hanifin on the lower end of what I thought he’d get by another pick or prospect.

While true I don't think that would be the case for a rental Hanifin with only a 1.2 million cap hit. At the same time I don't blame Conroy if that was his thinking and he saw how awful other offers were so far.

I mean why can't this be done on Friday? What defenseman of hanafins caliber was available this week for a playoff run?
Make them sweat. Conroy blinked first IMO.
|
This trade would be more favorably perceived if it was done mid-day on Friday as opposed to today.
Time crunch and opponents getting better creates desperate teams. New bidders can show up, and ongoing ones can improve their offers. Why on earth do this now, today!?
This is why the defenders of this trade throwing shade at the rest of us are embarrassing themselves by deluding themselves into liking it, solely because "there could not have been a better offer"
Maybe as of right now. But that doesn't account for the additional two days of mounting pressure and what could've come of it.

Conroy said we have 2 1sts next year.. that isn't true, right? One is going to Montreal.
