Anyways, two more picks to add to the pile. Keep piling them up and make the most of them.
Maybe this Dman they got will turn into something. He has some size and offensive ability and supposedly just converted to D recently? Did I read that earlier? Maybe he'll have some use on the powerplay, he's supposed to have a good shot. Buried behind a lot of good D in Vegas, same as Pachal who everyone seems to like.

I'd love to know what Brisson was supposidley saying to teams behind the scenes to try to keep Hanifin out of the rental market and get him to one of his preferred destinations.
In the end it's always tough to gauge a trade like this one.
Is the return dissapointing...100%
Did Conroy likely take the best offer on the table after having Hanifin available all year...100%!
It sucks but I also don't really think there is much he could do about it.
I still don’t buy the Brisson angle. I think Florida, Tampa, and Boston just said I’ll see you in the offseason if you get there.
Hanifin wasn’t available all year either.
H Lindholm got a a 1st, two 2nds, and filler. I was expecting that and it fell below that bar.
I'm not upset with Conroy, I am disappointed that this is the market. I do believe this is the best he could get. Sucks
How does he know this is the best he could get when there is still a little under 48 hrs away from the deadline? This feels like a deal made because he was scared to wait until Friday.

Flames are already retaining on Tanev and Hanifin, they cannot retain on any more contracts unless my cba knowledge is mistaken
I thought that each team had 3 retention spots. I still don’t think they will use their last retention spot now though. Better to hold that in case you need it at the draft. Imagine if a team with a top 10 pick was willing to trade it for one of your players + picks if you retained on the contract but you couldn’t because the draft is 2 weeks before free agency so you would have no retention spots available until then so the trade could not happen. That would sting.
I don't think so. Sharangovich isn't the answer long term with elite talent. Kuzmenko isn't the long term talent we were looking for either. We need young elite talent plus guys like Sharangovich in the interim. Which other teams were touting Miromanov to justify this return? It just seems so backward. Couldn't have predicted this at all. Should have been compensated more with more beneficial conditions on our part. Conroy was played. Anyway, just hoping next years' UFAs are dealt soon as well. This deal has me raging. All risk and no immediate payback.
My point was, Connie won the Toffoli trade and he won the Lindy trade.
Let's take a deep breath and give this one a chance to play out before jumping to conclusions.

You don’t get young elite talent unless you draft it, or you deal multiple firsts. I think this is fine for a rental. Maybe not a win, but fine.

I'm starting to think maybe Conroy isn't asking for too much for retaining 2+ years on Markstrom.
Yeah, that’s one the annoys me most. Play hardball on Markstrom and miss out on a better pick this season and the return that Friedman said was good for the Flames.
I hate these types of analysis. Judge each deal on it's own.
Lindholm - very good
Tanev - mediocre
Hanifin - very mediocre
With all these they were expiring contracts. With Lindholm he got draft picks high and low, and young b-prospects to give us hope for the future.
The two deals in the past week just didn't transpire to much. Again, the lesson learned is we can't be in this position with our valuable UFAs again. I'm fine with Conroy getting a bypass as he wasn't fully in the role last off-season, but the same mistakes can't be made going forward now that we see the values people are willing to give back.
So, if the pick is Top 10 in 2025, then does 2026 become unprotected?
Same thing if they trade the 2025 pick. Then 2026 is unprotected?
If that is the case, it almost seems like Conroy knows they will be trading that pick.
If so then I wonder why Conroy didn't just ask for the 2026 1st straight up with no protection.
I don't have a huge issue with the return. What I really don't understand is why Conny hdd to pull the trigger with a couple days left . It seems Vegas got absolutely everything they wanted, got their target added with virtually zero additional cap hit giving them the option to add more the next couple of days. There is no way Vegas was going to pull the deal off the table between now and Friday so why not try and squeeze them for more, another pick or prospect.
Vegas has a surprisingly large amount of draft picks the next few years.

The conditions are what really chaps my ass. Just brutal.
And those who are pumping the tires on the 'pool' of assets returned collectively over a number of trades are too scared fo admit when a spade is a spade - this is a bad deal.
I mean why can't this be done on Friday? What defenseman of hanafins caliber was available this week for a playoff run?
Make them sweat. Conroy blinked first IMO.

Given the return for these last 4 trades have been almost pure future deals, the Flames need to absolutely lean into being bad for the next two seasons. Call it a retool, who cares. They absolutely cannot try to trade these 1st round picks for mid-level talent and try to fill massive roster holes via free agency.
Be bad. Pick high. Acquire elite talent via the draft (the only way this team can). Call it a retool.
No shortcuts.

Feels like Vegas said here's our best offer or we go elsewhere, and maybe it was the best offer Conroy had been given so far, so he pulled the trigger to potentially avoid missing out.
