It literally comes out of the mouths of the people who run the club. Maloney had a whole press conference last year where the subject was "just sneak in".
We get it you work for the club, but tell us why you want us to selectively believe what the people in charge are saying? Why believe conny on one hand but ignore when he says if you get in you can surprise people?

Retool and Rebuild semantics are what binary thinkers concern themselves with.
Conroy has a plan he presented to leadership to get the job, and he is sticking to it.
So far he has been super transparent and has done exactly what he said he would do.
The goal is to get younger and be competitive. It doesn't fit any single label.
Trying to constantly label it as this or that tells us more about the intelligence of the person assigning labels then it does the Flames plan.

I definitely think that WC2 in the west is up for grabs, especially with the strength of schedule remaining. Flames have the advantage now, and I think that Canucks miss, but there will be teams chasing the Flames. St. Louis and Utah are absolutely surging right now. Hope the Flames really come together to close out this season.

Show me quotes where they said their goal year after year is to sneak in so they can collect a couple games of playoff revenue
The team is still paying Darryl Sutter more per year than that revenue would generate but sure, pretend that's the goal of the franchise.

At least the players are going to be happy. Hopefully they kick some ass now.

Was hoping for a small move but had the Frost and Farabee trade happened today I would have been thrilled. Smarter to get a move like that done earlier.

That is true, but as he said in his PC that with the rising cap retention is probably not going to be that big a deal anymore.
But the return was awful. We don't need AHL players for 2 years of retention.

GTFO with this kind of commenting. Just because you disagree with differing opinions doesn't make people stupid for having them. This is such a common issue with the world today taking jabs at people rather than having the patience and intelligence for healthy discourse.

That's exactly how I read that comment. He didn't want to tie up retention slots for next year. They already have Markstrom on the books for next season, keeping two more open spots gives them options potentially for Andersson, Backlund, and maybe Coleman next season. It also opens the door to signing a one-year UFA deal in the summer with plans to flip the player at the deadline.

We get it. You don't like the Gifs.

Makes sense but all 3 are under 5M and with the cap going up teams wont have as many cap issues, but we haven't seen the wild free agent spending yet.

Exactly.
Deadline day isn't some magical day that you need to make something happen. It's just the last day that you can. If you get your business done earlier, that is even better. All the hype around it is media driven to sell ad space.

In other news, the Flames officially now have the lowest team cap hit in the league.

The one thing I do have a hard time with is the Kadri to Avs situation and what that return would/could have been given how much Brock received.
With that said we knew Kadri didnt want to go anywhere and we were told by Craig that he wasn't trading him. What "could" have been will have to remain just that.

I have to premise this in that I’m not calling you out or trying to be a d!ck but yesterday you said you said we would be adding and that we were close with a team in the east. Not sure if you can disclose what happened (outbid/cold feet from other team).
Appreciate all the insights and lots of things get discussed that don’t come to fruition. Us nosy fans without connections are lucky to have connected posters like you/sec/dis who share what you can.

They’re in a playoff spot.
They didn’t add.
What more could anyone ask?

To sell Anderrson and Kadri for big returns.

Kadri controls where he can go and Andersson can be moved in the offseason. But i guess we could just waive them to make you happy.
