Conroy has been the GM for 2 drafts and 2 deadlines and it is pretty crazy to see how many changes have been made. The way this team has played it would have been difficult to sell off a key veteran and it also doesn’t make sense to use a high pick on a short term rental. The Frost/Farabee trade makes a lot of sense as those guys can be on the team for the foreseeable future while filling an immediate need.
The way the Central teams loaded up and that being the clear path the WC2 would need to go through it seems like a playoff berth for the Flames could be a swift 4 and out if they can make it.
It is going to be interesting to see what Conroy does in the summer. The plan they have does not appear to be tanking for high picks but we know he is going to continue to make the team younger.

If we include the Farabee/Frost trade, it's a C+ for me. I'm happy with that trade and if it were done today, the mood in here would be quite different.
That being said, still would have liked to see us sell a bit, given the prices. I still think we should have at least engaged teams further on Kadri, Coleman and Andersson, not to mention trying to actively shop Hanley, Miromanov, Bean, Rooney, etc.. Maybe the Flames did that, but it sounds like our prices were way too high because we didn't really want to sell in the first place.

I guess we will see how this team responds. Maybe they make the playoffs, or maybe they fall flat. Going to be interesting to see.
I am hoping that this off-season/draft that Conroy knocks out a peg or two and puts the Flames into the McKenna lottery. I do wish that they made a move or two to start moving the needle further into that direction today, but at least they didn't make moves to move away from that direction either.
I am sure there are a voiceferous bunch that will disagree on this, but that's the direction that I hope the Flames move towards. It is just too competitive for them to add through UFA, so it becomes even more imperative to build the core through the draft. An overwhelming majority of core players/franchise players/stars are found at the start of the draft, and this is where the Flames should work towards this off-season.
Will be interesting to see where this team ends up. A top 5-10 pick this year would have been a big step forward this year, but i am personally am much more focused on next year. Hopefully the Flames make the playoffs and add some excitement this season. It would really, really suck for them to fall flat after Conroy gave them assurances that they wouldn't be traded, and end up giving Montreal a top 11-16 pick and no playoffs.
What would be awesome right now is for the Flames to make the playoffs, and blow away expectations by beating out whomever their opponent is in the 1st round. That would be wicked fun!

Can Sec in the form of a gif, give us a hint at what the best offer for Andersson was?

Best we can really hope for is some sort of definitive direction rest of the way.
Go on a run and solidify the playoff spot so we can get out of surrendering our barely outside of top 10 pick, or drop the hell out of this race and lock that pick in.
Losing that pick and not getting a taste of the playoffs would be absolute worst-case outcome for this season

If that is what they were trying they didnt try too hard with 20M in cap space and 2 firsts

We will see what happens, but I think we are setting ourselves up for disappointment if we think they are rebuilding. This is a retool on the fly.
Probably another reason they did not want to retain multiple years, first of all the package was complete trash, but also, they likely want to use that cap space to sign players or trade for some.
If they start moving pieces like Andersson, it will look more like a rebuild.

This fabricated notion that the goal and strategy of the franchise is and always has been, to sneak in the playoffs to collect that $2-$3M that a 1st round playoff game generates, is one of the dumbest things constantly repeated on this site.

To be honest I still think there's a good chance they get in the top 10 in the draft again. Blues, Utah, even Ducks are surging while they are kind of floundering.
Look how much they have to play a perfect game, full effort, no mistakes to even have a shot vs any of these contenders. They make 1 mistake or are at 95% and they get clapped.

That's a potential Wolf.
You wouldn't trade Miro for Schrodinger's Wolf?

You have to consider the possibility that the reason Conroy didn't want to do retention for 2 years is because he plans on using all his retention slots in the future when he trades players away.

On the other hand, they could surge past the LAK and we could have a BoA and Jets Canucks in the first round.
I choose to be an optimist.
