This idea that a player needs to be on the opening night roster, as some sort of official score card, is misleading and pointless.
With Mantha in the fold, it made it so that any pleasant surprises (Honzek) would create a logjam. They may say that’s a good problem to have, but the addition of Mantha put them in this spot. Pelletier obviously could have done himself a favor by having an awesome camp, but now you’re in this predicament because of having one too many wingers in the mix.

I’ll follow up but I was told yesterday we would see them today.
Perhaps that injury to Sharangovich has delayed it as now they may have more room to explore.

Cuts tomorrow or very late tonight at best.

Some interesting notes:

Vladar and Cooley require waivers to be sent down and Calgary doesn’t want to waive either of them. They also want Wolf up, so we may see the dreaded 3 headed monster to start again this year.

Flames will carry 7 D and so that leaves 2 of the “bubble” group to be sent down - Hanley likely the odd man out as Tinordi already assigned down but still up right now. Not really a surprise here.

Flames could carry 14 Forwards if 7 D and 2 goalies but we could see all 3 remain up. Only Honzek, Klapka and Coronato are waiver exempt so we would have to see Schwindt on waivers, Coronato likely to start in the AHL.

Sounds like Sharky could be hurt for a while, more so weeks vs months, though this is an educated guess as the Flames are tight lipped on the severity right now. I think Honzek is a lock for starting up with the big club, he’s the best kept secret on how to earn a spot at camp and Craig wants to keep his word.

Flames aren’t shopping anyone but teams have called, I’m told we likely won’t see any moves before the season starts which means Craig and the group have a long night ahead of them. They’re meeting for dinner to finalize the list.

I have no plans for dinner tonight. Could you let them know?

If Sharky is out for that long (weeks) they could put him on the IR and delay the call about Pelletier/Cooley for awhile .

Speculation on Islander players that will hit waivers. Sam Bolduc most interesting name, some speculating the defenceman will be claimed if he hits waivers

Colorado trades Brannstrom to the Nucks rather than lose him on waivers

I assume this means Malinski and Kylington have made the team

I think you are right about Malinski but they also claimed Ludvig. I've heard Kylington hasn't done much in the preseason.

There is absolutely no need for this. Waive Cooley and get it over with, he's a 27 year old with six NHL games and has shown zero, zero zero to have NHL upside. I'm sure they like him as a person but this would be totally brain dead.

Yea I don’t disagree, I dislike the 3 goalie stuff.

Oops guess it doesn’t matter now! Flames made the right call.

Yes, they waived brown, the takes are hilarious - plan the parade because of the accountability they are showing! Nevermind the ridiculousness of signing him to that contract in the first place....
