I think these are players to keep an eye on:
Nick Abruzzese
Sam Malinski
Scott Perunovich or Matt Kessel
Kaedan Korczak
Valtteri Puustinen or Emil Bemstrom

There are some mildly interesting names there, but mostly in an age group that we wouldn't be interested in, and we have plenty of D. Abruzzese has been linked to the Flames in rumors before though.
Korczak is only 23, and might be intriging for a team that needs depth D, and Perunovich has put up big numbers at every level, but is quite small. If he played a bit more like Krug, maybe he would stick.

I think Perunovich's biggest problem has been injuries

I feel like people were talking about Perunovich being a key piece of a trade package for Tkachuk when the Blues were rumored to be in the mix. Glad that didn't come together.

I think 'mildly interesting' is about as good as you can hope for on waivers
to me, the question should be will there be someone on waivers who is better, younger, and/or more upside than whoever is penciled in for the 7th D or 13th forward. If that is Hanley, Barrie, Rooney or Hunt, then the bar isn't too high

If Perunevich becomes available, you take him without hesitation. He's a winner. He's coming off of injuries that set him back, and St. Louis brought in Broberg taking his spot (potentially).
He slots in on the second pair, as no one on the NHL team has that upside and skill to usurp him. Third pair becomes Bean Bahl, and the AHL squad deep as all hell.
I would be ecstatic if he made it to the Flames and no lower team picked him up.
Having smaller, supremely talented players in Perunovich, Bruz and Parekh paired with three monsters, would be Cup worthy. I'm in.

If a player is placed on waivers prior to Nov. 1, the waiver order is determined by the reverse standings order from the previous season. This means the team in last place gets the first chance to place a claim on a player.
If the player is placed on waivers after Nov. 1, then the claim order goes by the current season’s standings.
So, waiver priority position is currently:
1 SJ
2 CHI
3 ANA
4 CBJ
5 MTL
6 UTA
7 OTT
8 SEA
9 CGY
10 NJ
11 BUF
12 PHI
13 MIN
14 PIT
15 DET
16 WSH
17 STL
18 NYI
19 VGK
20 TBL
21 LA
22 NSH
23 TOR
24 EDM
25 COL
26 BOS
27 VAN
28 FLA
29 WPG
30 CAR
31 DAL
32 NYR

Is there anything more underwhelming than September waiver wire lists? Yuck.

No, but September free agent lists are pretty close.

At first I thought Pilon was just a placeholder for 3/4 of the Oilers lineup... then I realized the spelling is wrong.

We have enough things to worry about this season, let’s not bring a Pilon into the fold. We don’t need the jokes writing themselves if it’s a rough season.
