I still think we should have given him a shot at the trade deadline last year, we really needed a spark of some kind.

At least he never played for the Oilers or Canucks.

I hope he enjoys his retirement, it can't be easy to step away for a competitor like him.

Was just about to post this! One of my favourite moments of Iggy.

They'll probably do the ceremony during a weeknight game against a team that isn't typically a big draw.

Lanny's jersey was retired during a game against the Whalers. Vernon's was a game against Chicago (right when Chicago was one of the worst teams in the league). Nieuwendyk's was a game against the Islanders.

The MacInnis FAF ceremony was the only one held while the Flames were playing against another team the player played for and he had a front office job with the Blues, so it was likely the easiest way to schedule it.

We will all miss Iggy but on the plus side we never have to hear about bringing him back again to play, thank God for that.

Colorado? Played 3 seasons there plus maybe not the biggest draw.

I too dearly hope they do the right thing and retire the number. But I fear they won't. The organization is generally really poor at this stuff.

My crazy childhood friend got a "Jarome Iginla" tattoo on his bicep as well as a name bar and #12 on his back a few years ago. Then he had a kid and moved to the Tuscan region of Italy somewheres. Haven't heard from him since.

We could always sign him out of retirement when we're in a Cup final!

1st in goals - Jarome 350, Kovalchuk 338

2nd in points - Thornton 823, Jarome 724.

he was an all-time elite goal scorer that we had in our own backyard for a real long time
Yep, era adjusted his peak and Bossy's peak are equal but rarely do you see Iggy talked about as being a top 5 pure goal scorer ever.
