Flames Here it is...

My favourite player of all time. Any idea if he will be signing autographs on July 30?

If they don't retire his number, I'm never going to a home game or buying a jersey ever again.

He was a man amongst boys at the peak of career no one could handle him let alone stop him .
The total package..that will not be seen again in the NHL again.

A fierce competitor but a gentle soul with an angelic smile , enjoy retirement and time with your family Iggy we miss you

Agree - those numbers should have put him there.
For about 2 years, there was a general belief he was the best all-around hockey player in the world. There are a number of players in that top 100 list that have never reached that level of elite. The NHL has been in existence for 100 years, so that should have placed him in the top 50. That he wasn’t even placed in the top 100 just shows the stupidity of the voters.

I just thought it was hypocritical. You didn't want to see Iginla in a Flames jersey again but you were okay with Jagr despite him being 5 years older.

I guess "expiry date" means different things depending on how high up a player is in the all-time scoring race?

Personally, I would've MUCH rather brought Iginla back as our 'elder statesman, character, leadership' player than Jagr.

Anyway, we all knew this day was coming. I hope Iginla enjoys his retirement.
I only said I would be okay with Jagr and that's because he was more productive than Iginla in his prior seasons. I guarantee you won't find posts of me campaigning for Jagr as I've never been a fan of bringing in old veteran players. I've said it before here and I'm not a sentimental guy. I only want players on the team that I believe can take them to winning a division and playoffs. I had front row seats for Grant Fuhr and Mike Vernon's last seasons and it was not pretty. I didn't want to see Iginla go out like that. I also think bringing him in would put unnecessary pressure on the new coach because if Iginla can't keep up and is ideally a part time player it creates a bit of an undesirable situation for the coach having to bench him. This is for the best.

The stupidity of the system, really. By dramatically over-representing the first half-century of the NHL's history - a period that largely saw fewer than 100 active NHL players at any given time - the league screwed itself on the back half. Add in the poor inclusion of too many members of the modern Blackhawks, and they just compounded their mistake.

not only that but my recollection is the committee was fairly stacked with players and others who were NHLers in the 80s. that cohort also was overrepresented compared to the 00s

while you quibble with the process I suppose, looking at Hockey Reference and Iginla is 6th in career adjusted goals (essentially taking into account the era- (including scoring context) a player played in. although Ovie is going to pass him real soon

he was an all-time elite goal scorer that we had in our own backyard for a real long time
