All teams that have players on their 3rd line today flirting with a 50 point pace. The good teams have Backlund and Frolik, good players, on their 3rd line.
|
Was there a team in the entire league that had 7 forwards with 50 pts last year? Doubtful.
In fact a quick look shows that 94 F's in the entire league had 50 pts or more last year, so an average of 3 per team.
I realize scoring is up this season....but no way good team 3rd liners are at 50 pt paces on any sort of small (forget large) scale.

You think that Tkachuk-Backlund-Frolik is a 3rd line? I disagree. They pretty much dominate every game as a shutdown AND an offensive line. Every coach’s dream 2nd line.
The Flames 4th line is fine.
They are missing an entire 3rd line. Could legitimately slot Brouwer into the 3rd. So really they’re missing two 3rd liners and they have a pretty complete team.
But I would be interested to hear your argument as to how the Backlund line is a 3rd unit.

Yeah. Bennett has gotta sit a game or two at this point. Just being way too stupid and not good enough.

3m line is one of the better second lines in the league. That guys opinion is clearly, at best, one that should never be considered seriously.

What about Jankowski? He obviously hasn't been producing offensively (zero points in his last 11 games), but how much of that is because his wingers have been ineffective? I don't think he's been making dumb mistakes or anything -- maybe swap him with Stajan and see if Jankowski might click with the likes of Lazar and Hathaway/Lomberg?

It's a ridiculous echo chamber in here right now/lately/after a loss/when the Flames don't dominate/always.
Honestly, I've been here for years and this is the worst I've seen. I don't know what it is but embarrassing is the right word except it is potentially mitigated by the fact that the majority of Flames fans and an even greater majority of hockey fans in general have no idea CP exists, so really we should just be embarrassed about ourselves I suppose.
There are still all sorts of quality contributors here, but the background noise drowns them out.
Everyone who wants to shoot someone into the sun or cheers injuries or is "done" with so-and-so or wants firings can shut the #### up anytime.

The entire line looks lost. Jankowski isn't driving the play at all and is playing tentatively. Sam is an utter mess, and not doing anything out there. And even when Hathaway is on the line - he's not doing enough.
Part of it could be you have 3 kids playing together I suppose who are prone to more ups and downs.
But they need that line going.
I have to admit I'm as down on Sam as I have ever been. It seems to me that at best he goes on to be a 40-50 point guy - so if you can move him for the scoring winger you need, I'd be open to that.
Ideally I'd be looking for a Al Coates "Something now, something later" deal where they get a winger to help now and maybe recoup a pick or two.

Toronto lead the league last year with 6 forwards with 50 or more.
3 teams had 5: Washington, Minnesota, Columbus.

Sounds like what you really want is an echo chamber that only reflects back your opinions.

Part of what you're saying is true but there are also non 50pt players on the top 2 lines. Looking at your example teams you've listed off last season:
Penguins: ~ Five 50+ pt guys
Blues: ~ Five 50ish + pt guys
Predators: ~ Four 50ish pt guys
Capitals: ~ Six 50ish pt guys
Lots of people are heavily understating the impact of Backlund and to a lesser extent, Tkachuk and their ability to perform as a 2nd line especially with main defensive responsibilities on the team.

Not a great way of looking at it as that assumes every team will have the same number of 50+ scorers. The Coyotes are on pace for maybe one 50+ point forward.
