What makes Toronto so successful is the balance between foreign cultures and our own. People in this thread are complaining about people bringing archaic and offensive customs to our country.

RedMileDJ has posted the closest examples of remarks that you are saying are typical, and I would say that the vast majority of CP members would not agree with them, and indeed they have been soundly renounced by many people replying to this thread.

Like I said before, I see no difference in saying children can't be associated with females in gym class than saying I don't want my white kids to be in the same class as black kids.

You're obviously not white, would you be ok if you had kids and you found out that some racist aholes at your kids school were given special permission to not have their kids associate with your children because it offended their parents sensibilities? Doubtful.

There are some things, that even though I think they're stupid, parents should be able to opt out of.

Don't want your kids to learn sex-ed. Yeah, fine. Not my problem. It's like one unit that lasts for a few days.

Don't want your kids to be take class with girls? Umm, no. That's effed up. I don't want my government being complicit in raising kids in a discriminatory and misogynist environment.

It may seem like people are piling on but as you can see we were just as offended by your stereotype as you were by the stereotypes from a few other posters.

You should be impressed that we would all be so quick to say you're wrong. The alternative, or one of them anyways, would be for us to say "good don't move out here, we don't like your kind".

We're trying to let you know that it isn't like that out here. Definitely not as multicultural as TO and sure there are some racist hicks but Calgary is a reasonably progressive place.

In fact if you came to Calgary and went to high school in the NE, I'd say there would be quite a few places where you'd be part of the majority. I'd be the minority.


Also, since you haven't been here that long let me fill you in on something.

If there were a thread that said that fundamentalist Christian (white) children were exempt from learning Evolution and were instead taught intelligent design, CP would be near unanimous in DESTROYING those people. Not literally of course. I mean that there would be pages and pages and pages of posters proclaiming their disgust with the fact our government would allow it.

I actually don't think this is a race issue. This is a religious issue. Most of CP is fairly progressive and I think most are agnostic/atheist. We don't like our secular laws being circumvented in favor of, IMO archaic, religious views.
