It's things like this that motivate me even more to move out of my NE neighborhood, and back down to the SW. Better yet, outside the city in a white majority community.
Call me what you want, I don't care. I'm tired of being the only one on my block that speaks English and knows how to clear the sidewalk of snow. As soon as I turn onto my community all I smell is curry.
Whatever. GTFO. Go back to where you came from. The majority of these people are just waiting for the "phone call" anyway.
FYI: I didn't move to the NE out of choice. My wife already owned a home here when we got married. And even she's tired of living in "lil' Muslim."
Done rant.
You mean "lil seikh" because if you smell curry then it's indians who are Sikhs not muslims.
Some people really are just ignorant. And don't let the door hit you on the way out I'm sure they are sick of smelling hotdogs.

Are you seriously going to correct every single person who gets a middle eastern culture confused for another? Perhaps you'd next like to expound on the differences between high and low German, or the fact the Belgium's official language is Flemish even though less than 40% of the country actually speak it? Maybe explain the differences between Inuit and Eskimos and the other arctic peoples?
The fact is that some middle easterners who only get into the country to begin with because of our pathetic immigration rules are crapping in my backyard. If I had to live on a street where I was bombarded by curry smell non-stop I'd move as well. If my neighbors didn't speak English or shovel their snow I'd be pissed off.
I just got a ticket for playing my music too loud in my own home at 7pm. How about I call the cops to have all the curry cookers ticketed for permeating my home with their god awful nauseating smell? Oh wait, that's 'racist.'

It sounds bad but i tend to agree. I a lot of time people of color are not from here, some are 2nd or 3rd generation Canadians and have had time to amalgamate themselves into society. But most i find are still immigrants, they don't buy into Canadian norms and rules and therefore seem to piss off the average Canadian. It annoys me that i see asian and brown people snort/clip toe nails/pick noses etc. on the train because that's what they do back home. I like white communities, and id prefer to live in them for that reason alone.

What the hell are you talking about? yes I'm correcting people who don't know the difference. Seikhs are not a Middle eastern culture, actually they are the exact opposite. Seikhs and muslims have a history of hate and violence towards each other and I don't think it's unfair to correct the ignorance of people.
Don't know what the rest of your post has anything to do with the post you replied to as I really couldn't care less about all that.
And believe me the smell of curry bothers me more than anyone, but lets not confuse a whole race with another race.

Go back to your country you stupid Middle Easterner!
Looks like the terrorists have won and instilled their cultural values on Bush.
Only brown people pick their noses and clip their nails in public or have you thought maybe you live in a neighborhood where the average age is probably around 65 and a lot of higher class rich people live there?
Come to Forest Lawn and I'll show you white people and all sorts of people doing things in public which would make you puke, but lets keep being ignorant.

You're a racist piece of trash? That's a good start. Probably a red-neck, too. You're disgusting.

This thread is making me crave curry. Curry Pringles will suffice.

I don't care how someone eats, which language they speak (as long as they can speak one of the two official languages) or what the colour of their skin is or what they call god.
This.
It doesn't matter what someone's ethnic background is; if they're making asinine demands on the system then they need to be called out. We're talking about music class and kids playing dodge ball here - it's not like they're going to be forced to conduct a seance or participate in a hands-on sex ed class. Having anyone - from any race, religion, or background - demand that a public institution dramatically alter itself to fit their own specific needs is both unrealistic and unfair. It's not specific to Muslims or any other racial group - remember the braniac (white) parents right here in Calgary who demanded that their kids be exempt from homework last year?
The public school system is what it is, and by sending your children there you accept that. It certainly isn't perfect, but there is also a reason why Canada is lauded as having one of the finest and most comprehensive educational systems in the world. Living in a free society, you have to understand that your children will eventually be exposed to information or influences that you don't agree with. This is where parents should take over and counsel or guide their children, instilling a value system so they are able to determine for themselves what they do or do not agree with. I consider myself religious and I believe in creationism, but not for a second would I consider pulling my kids out of a science class because someone might teach them evolution.
It is unfortunate that people like this Muslim family in Winnipeg seem to misunderstand the context of their "rights" in a multicultural system, and that our government does both them and the rest of us a great disservice by attempting to accommodate requests like this. All this really ends up doing is creating societal friction and encouraging the eventual destruction of our country's culture and institutions.

People can pick their noses all they want. It only pisses me off when they won't share the spoils.

I have lived in other countries, and I found it annoying not speaking the same language, not sharing the same customs and having different food norms. That said, I don't think those are racist preferences. I can like what I want where I want. I am much happier in the States or Canada. Had I been fluent in those countries I may have a different opinion.
If someone lives in a community where they are a minority and they feel the way I felt in another country, why is that racist? Unless the poster claims to dislike people for their background or incists on being superior to them, why are those preferences wrong? I did think the way he wrote that was a little out there.
Cultures can be very different and include different ways of doing things, there is nothing wrong with having your own preferences.
I certainly don't mind Puck correcting the cultural distinctions and have more of a problem with Traditional's snooty attacks.

Well, if you're going to be a racist, at least correctly identify the race you're doing your hating on. Otherwise people will think you're just an ignorant hick with incoherent emotionally-based prejudices instead of a suave, informed savant of the racial wars.

I laugh at people who complain about the smell of curry. If you've ever cooked a stew, and particularly chili, you've made a curry (and used many of the same spices) too!
Maybe these "curry" haters are secretly spicists, and wish we'd all stick to the safe trio of Basil, Thyme, and Oregano

To be fair their houses doesn't stink up a whole neighborhood. It's like those homes are curry factories and the scent stretches from miles and miles. At some point you gotta take into consideration your neighbors.
Anything that creates a smell in a neighborhood is too much. Garlic, weed, garbage...
