So confused. What did anyone think we were gonna get for him?
A 3rd round pick and a middling prospect is a great return for a guy who can't crack our top 6.

Well, that was weird. Wonder what happened for a guy at Sportsnet to get duped.

The middling prospect has to be better than the 9th best LD man we have in the organization. Bennett is at least a player in the bottom 6. Mete is not even close. The pick is meh.
I think Bennett has more value as a self rental than anything less than a 2nd rounder+ a random prospect.

It must be that because based on stats, we're getting 3rd/4th or another RFA with an anchor contract who isn't going to get qualified and needs a change of scenery.
I'd love it if Sam turned it around or BT could get a nice return, I just don't see any GM being stupid enough to trade a 2nd round pick for Curtis Lazar....wait a second. Aw crap.

The fact Bennett has the most value right here on the Flames is almost certainly true.
Although BT may be factoring in the potential cap savings as a benefit as well.

Fair question (which I misunderstood).
Maybe that kind of play is not relevant to winning in the playoffs.
As fans we love it, and there are certainly times when you can see opposition D men hearing footsteps and making rushed plays, but maybe a relentless, but more controlled, forecheck can achieve the same result.
I guess I'm wondering if playoff Bennett--as much as it is stirring to watch--is even an asset the Flames will miss.
Just thoughts

a 3rd line forward should be worth about a #5 Dman, not a #9 Dman

Athansiou is a bottom 6 player throughout his career and he got 2 2nds.
Lazar got a 2nd.
bennett is worth at least a 2nd. Victor mete is worth literally nothing to us.

Good thing that's not what the trade was for.

I don't see much of a fit with Dman coming back, but if it was the Chicago 3rd rounder, plus a lower pick and I would be fine with it.

I'd be surprised if Bennett is traded now for a pick. More likely they get a warm body. By all accounts, he is good in the room and won't be a distraction if this stays out there for the rest of the season. Would still be able to get a pick in the off-season.

the 3rd is also weak
trading one piece, for two lesser pieces, is a bad trade

To add to this, I think his league value is a 2nd. Interdivisional where we are going to see him 8 more times this season and playoffs is worth more.

Mete would be a ridiculously good add for Sam Bennett.
Kid can play. Still quite young and carries a much better cap hit which helps out the team.

It is fair if you think that way and I won't try to convince you otherwise but I do think it matters. I think heavy players matter during playoffs, playing heavy because it is a different game (officiating, intensity etc.)
IMO playoff hockey gets less pretty and more heavy/gritty (I guess I am trying to convince you haha).
But as I stated in an earlier post, if you don't think it's important then to each their own but I respect your position because I could be wrong.
