Is she keeping his messages, and her messages telling him to bugger off.

Before this thread goes completely AWOL any chance you could give us her responses to his texting? As you can see we've been very busy making assumptions, lol.

I don't think it's old fashioned for a customer to expect the business they deal with to have trained their employees not to take personal advantage of information obtained in the course of their duties. In fact it is a fundamental employmet principle that that information is the property and responsibility of the employer. It's not about being a fuddy-duddy, it's about responsible business owners and employees. (And a little bit of creepiness too.)

Here's what I'm looking for. Discourse.
It's indefensible that he garnered her information from the workplace, and I'm not disputing that.
However, I honestly think people are far too assuming in what they can and cannot expect from businesses and their teenage under-trained employees.
We shake our heads and shrug it off when a fast-food joint can't even do something as basic as clean the bathroom properly, and we either a) don't go there again, or b) don't use the bathroom there. Thats a consumer choice.
Now, a real stick-up-the-rear would likely complain to management, but misses the point entirely that PEOPLE ARE IDIOTS and young people (like the type pathetic enough to work at a cell-phone store) are probably even bigger idiots.
Now, this is not to say it is anyones fault if some moron breaks the law and uses your info unscupulously.
All I'm really getting at I guess, is people shouldn't be so indignant and self-righteous, or more importantly, surprised.

In this case, where she's said no and he's sent a dozen messages, I don't think its an over reaction.
Again the concern has to be that she handed this creepy guy a cellphone that probably had an address book in it.

Well, no, but that's besides the point (which, if you've forgotten, is stealing her private info).

IF the customer returns to the store and the manager/franchise doesn't care, I would consider that a MAJOR problem. As it stands, you are right, as far as we know the store has not done anything wrong.

So is she sending anything back? Because that's mighty strange if she's not.
Tell her to tell the guy to eff off and die. Legalities aside, it's the same as some dude in the bar hitting on her. Want him to stop? Crush his ego.

Using the information provided for professional purposes to contact her personally was illegal, so I'm not sure why that part is so hard to comprehend.
Apparently you aren't grasping the notion of a hypothetical. The "scary situation" was raised as part of a hypothetical, which means it's not real. Nobody has said that what we know so far has created a scary situation, what has been said is that an employer who has access to sensitive information and doesn't care how it's treated presents a real problem. If this guys employer laughed this off and generally didn't care what his employees did with this info I'd consider that fairly scary, there's plenty that can be done quite easily if someone has the right personal information.

This is exactly what I thought. Girls can be pretty non-confrontational, and I would not be surprised if she "doesn't want to be mean" and just can't tell him to bugger off.
It wouldn't surprise me in the least if she's texted back things that just don't make it clear to the guy that she wants him to stop texting her.
I think for us to make a clear judgement on this, we need to know what she's been texting back (if anything).
Another idea... Why don't you just ask her for his cell number and maybe post it here on CP by accident.

Ya, dude, why aren't you there right now? If that was my sister I'd be all over that guy. I'd happily pose as you if you like, I pass that store on the way home. (I kid)

Don't know how feasible it is for her, but I would suggest that she change her cell number - depending on which company she is with (Rogers, Telus, Bell,...), she might be able to do it online.
And definitely complain to the manager of Wireless City

Okay, from a female's perspective, some guy I am not interested in has my phone number, address, and other personal information and won't leave me alone. Stalking? Nooooo, not scary at all.

What difference does it make what she says to him? If a chick tells you no thanks, I have a man, do you continue to persue in hopes she'll cheat? Clearly, if she's wanting to do that, she may say, "I have a man already, but what the hell." Why should I have to tell a man to eff off? I shouldn't have to be rude. That's the polite way of saying, no thank-you.

So what would you say to a potential stalker?
"Excuse me good sir, I find your misguided attempts at flirtation bothersome at best and would prefer if you ceased all formal communication twixt us post haste."

I think this is the part you and Dess have the real difference in. He assumed he wasn't bothering her to the extent he seems to be, and you did.

Lol. But when a guy asks you out, you don't know he's stalker material right away. Saying "I'm taken" is code for piss off. That's all she needed to say. If she hasn't said anything stronger since then, well, that's odd and unfortunate. Clearly, she needs to be more firm. My point is she shouldn't have to be. Then again, we don't know what else she has said.
