All this says to me is that we are likely headed to another lockout.

Canadian teams don't need to do it because fans are gonna be there for their team no matter what. It's all about money and it goes round and round. Just wait until the Oilers do it and the league will make a ruling out of it and the ownerships in those not-so-NHL areas will threaten to pull out and sell their teams.

That isn't the reason why you have not seen Canadian teams do it. For the Canadian teams and many other teams it makes no financial sense to spend $15M+ dollars on their roster at the deadline, only a handful of really wealthy teams can do that because they have so much capital they don't care. It is like teams in MLB like the Yankees, they don't care how much luxury tax they pay and so it is broken.

Fun, fun. It's a little weird to me to have a salary cap that governs team contruction while trying to make the playoffs, but then throw all it in the garbage once the playoffs start. For teams that routinely make the playoffs, the salary cap has become just a minor inconvenience they have to work around while they wait for their real season to start - cause then they can ice whatever roster they want.
Took about 15 to 20 years after the cap to get back to the wealthy teams using their $$$ to compete, but they've finally figured out how to do it.

Why? The owners shouldn't care, and the players already gave up on free salaries and agreed to the cap. The fact that it isn't enforced in the playoffs doesn't deny them any money. LTIR actually allows extra contracts to be signed that would otherwise not be allowed.
I think the only people who care are fans.

Then why did they put a limit on it in the first place?

I think it's still the case that players don't get paid in the playoffs, so the thought was that any sort of playoff salary cap would be irrelevant.

Where is that poster where I said Landeskog would be back for the playoffs and they argued with me that it wouldn't happen?

Are you fn kidding? Ya, owners who want to compete for the Cup in smaller markets won't care big money teams can abuse LTIR for a huge competitive advantage, that's it. Do you think before you post some of this stuff?

Do you think teams are happy stashing away key players until the playoffs so they can cheat ?
Vegas is in a battle to make it. I think they would rather have guys in the lineup.

Vegas will be just fine. Do you think teams are happy to have a $25M player advantage come playoffs? Vegas is not in a battle to make it at all, I have a better chance of winning Lotto Max than they do of missing.

People were saying that two years ago… and guess what? They missed.

Just last week Vegas was in striking distance.
Injuries can pile up.
They are also taking on a lot of risk dealing away picks etc and a chance they could miss the playoffs and not ice the super team you make them out to be.

Vegas needs to be hit with the retroactive Luongo type cap penalty here for cheating
But not right away that’s not fair. The 2026 season makes sense to me. Penalize them then

It's like the IL in baseball, to make sure you can't just call up another player to the active roster for a one or two game problem.
I don't know what the SRP pool is, sorry.

Why are you being so rude? It's actually possible to discuss and differ on these issues without being that way. I suggest you try it.
It is mid-market teams doing it, not "big money teams". https://www.forbes.com/lists/nhl-val...h=43e1bb654109
They are spending $309k of actual salary on Hanifin and $2.07M of actual salary on Hertl. That is not going to break the bank for any NHL franchise outside of the Coyotes.
