Nice to start the season on a luke-warmer. Not really a heater, but more of a luke-warmer. I think this team has a lot more in the tank once they start developing a little more chemistry. Once that happens I think a heater will come around and they will burn through a bunch of teams in really impressive fashion. Great to be able to look at a team with so many changes and see them atop the division without really gelling. These guys are going to be good!

best first 6 games in franchise history...likely one of the hardest strength of schedules through 6 ever too.
hopefully we don't have as much complaining and pining for AHL callups with these few days off
Our real goal now is to beat the start of the powerhouse 2001-02 Flames team.
Quote:
n two separate draft-day trades, the Flames dealt goaltender Fred Braithwaite and forwards Valeri Bure and Jason Wiemer away, gaining back Roman Turek and Rob Niedermayer.
The changes appeared to pay off, as the Flames stormed out to a 13–2–2–2 record, and first place in the division

Yep, they don't even have full chemistry yet and already look like a top 5 NHL team. And the way things are going they will have $6mil in capspace at the deadline where most playoff teams are maxing themselves out.
Yeah, I think this is an easy one to justify. For as long as Vladar keeps winning against Edmonton, he’s in. As soon as he looses one, then Markstrom gets back in. Why screw up a good thing?
The thing is though I don't think it would have mattered who started the last game. The team played pretty responsible defensively and didn't give the Oilers the type of chances they gave them in the playoffs.
But the question is would the team have played like that if Markstrom would have started or would they have gone back to playing too loose? Starting Vladar might have forced them into playing more responsible.
In the chuck for work right now, oilers fans seem pretty disappointed in the result. Figured that was something people reading this thread would want to know.

I wouldn't be shocked if we get shelled pretty hard on this road trip. The schedule is brutal playing rested teams and we're playing 5 games in 7 day and traveling across Canada. I think we'll start to see some HF panic if that's the case. Either way, a main board panic thread usually is the turning point in our season.

I’m bad luck this season, don’t know if I should watch tonight. Only game I’ve watched has been Montreal. Tuned in to the radio broadcast during the second period last night. We know how that went!!
Quote:
I think those that are losing their #### on the team need to look around the league. Every single team is underperforming that was supposed to be a “contender” this year outside of Carolina and we’ve matched their point production.
The amount of leads being blown right now is bizarre by numerous teams.
If they lose tonight it will stink, but what we are seeing is simply October hockey. I’d rather they underperform now and get bought in later in the season tbh.
Quote:
-edit- This is one of the oldest teams in hockey, if not *the* oldest team. They're gonna have down periods, down games, bad stretches. You just gotta try and keep the valleys not so damn deep. But it's a balancing act. We've seen this team fall behind a bit in the standings and go on a mad scramble for a month or two and just completely gas themselves and pile injuries by like February or March and that's that.
Quote:
We all know the team doesn't really turn it on until you become pessimistic. No pressure.
Quote:
A little positivity from last night
Quote:
This feels like a lower scoring game from us. I'm thinking a 4-1 loss.
I've set my mindset now that I can either be right or pleasantly suprised. Perks of a pessimist.

So, in which period(s) will the Pens fail to show up? Make your bets now! I say the third one.
Quote:
That makes sense on a b2b. I’m going w both 2nd and 3rd because they haven’t shown they can play 40 strong minutes even lol, especially on the road…it will be a noticeable decline in play through those periods…I’m just praying CDS has a stand on your head kind of game lol…that’s all I got
Quote:
Effort can't be worse than last night
Quote:
It's objectively impossible to have a worse period.

Well.............they could take off all 3 periods tonight

Zucker got hurt last night!?!?
Lol What a f***ing meme of a player.

f***in' lmao.
Quote:
Shout out to Zuck for making it through 6 games.
Quote:
Zucker hurt already? Lol JFC.
Quote:
You know Sullivan wanted to give Rust back to Sid as soon as Guentzel was hurt, but he couldn't justify it with how well Zucker-Malkin-Rust was playing.
But wait....What's that? Zucker is hurt!?!? QUICK! Take Rust away from Malkin, too!!!

How many captains are the flames allowed to have? .
Every single one of those mf'ers have a C on their jersey

That was coming. They look like #### so far in the 1st period.

Can Letang start f***ing looking before he makes a f***ing pass to the point on the PP?

Take a shot every time Letang f***s up a PP drop pass*

Crosby literally skating back to play Letang's position

Do we really want 28 leading the rush into the middle of Calgary's defense on the PP?

Can’t give Kadri time like that. Sniped top shelf again.

Letang literally did the CBJ junk again

The team needs an energy shift by a grinder or at least for Geno to scream curses at them in Russian over the intermission.

Did anyone else get flashbacks to the game 6 Domingue stinker when CDS let that puck fly up, or was it just me?

this team sucks

You know, Markstrom, letting that goal in would have made the game more exciting. What you did there harmed the league. It harmed the sport.

Our only hope is that Markstrom remembers a really embarrassing conversation during the intermission and it throws him off his game

Knock if the #### off Markstrom. We'll never score a second at this rate.

You guys just don't understand the pro gamer strats the Pens are using of tiring the Flames out in the first by letting them beat on the Pens like a drum.

This is one of the most frustrating pens game I’ve ever watched. If we can’t compete with these elite teams we’re ####ed.

Yesterday I thought "I haven't listened to a Pens game this season, I should tune in. They're playing great!". I started listening at the end of the 1st yesterday, and they've been outscored 7-1 and outshot 59-23 since. Yikes! Am I to blame?

why do we always let up a goal after we have a dominating period

Bet we lose 4-0 just like our 7th game of the season last year also against the Flames

I think the d not being able to skate the puck up is also a bit of problem. In some ways I think we've traded one problem for another. Better in-zone coverage than we had with Matheson/Marino, but now (especially with Letang's issues so far) we have nobody who can rush the puck. That means we're relying on stretch passes for offense, and teams are just sitting back waiting for it.

Looking at you, Sid.
Quote:
I am starting to really suspect that we suck.
Quote:
Yeah, our breakouts have been worse than the Defense.
That last goal was three or four horrible clears and passing to nobody. We just don't want to look up and make a good play, just awful blind passes through the middle...
It's early and our first road trip so no big deal but the Playoff structure is worrisome...
Quote:
We're gonna dump a bunch of goals onto Vancouver and Seattle's #### goaltending and get lulled into thinking everything is fixed again

We suck cause we played 11 forwards against the BJs and now we're tired. I usually like Errey, but he's getting desperate.
New Rat Boy

New rat boy scores first.
So many teams just leave a Flame wide open in front of the net while a guy will just flick it there from the back of the net. It works a lot.

Is there a reason Kadri’s line isn’t the #1 line?
That line has consistently seemed more dominant since game 1 this season
Quote:
Stupid Islanders failing to sign Kadri, even though it is a brutal contract long term
That Kadri line is Calgary's 1st line. Huberdeau line is their #2 line with the eye test and production
Quote:
Given the circumstances, it’s pretty much a scheduled win, so just a pleasant surprise if the Flames f*** it up and lose, IMO.
Meh
Quote:
How do the pens only have one shot?
Quote:
Just tuned in... Penguins have 1 shot so far in over half a period? Whoa!
Quote:
Kadri with another.
I still remember Flames fans in the summer saying they would never stand a Kadri signing
Quote:
Every time I tune into a Flames game, they are dominating the game. I hate to admit it but they might be the real deal, at least in the regular season.
Quote:
Does Sutter even talk on the bench ? Lol I just saw his hand move behind a player and that player immediately jumped on ice lol.
Quote:
This again? Come on, man
It’d be nice to see them play an elite team without that team being tired and beat up the night before. Maybe with the starting goalie as well
Quote:
I had money on Kadri not replicating last year's efforts.
Media Darlings
Quote:
Hrudey just stated that the Flames have the best center group in the league. Now apparently they have the best defense and center group in the NHL. It's non-stop knob polishing by the Calgary media.
Quote:
Centre group? That’s just trolling at this point. Only someone who is absolutely devoid of mental acuity could make such a claim. If anything, centre is one of their weakest spots
Quote:
Reality - Huberdeau isn’t playing well to start the season
Media - You might think that Huberdeau isn’t doing much, but don’t believe what you see! Look at this cool backhand pass that resulted in nothing. He’s playing amazing!
Quote:
Best centres, defense and goaltending
Hand them the Cup already
Quote:
Hrudey you idiot, it was Rust who was highsticked, not Crosby. Moron.

Now they’re talking how rasmus anderssen has the ability to carry a team to the Stanley cup as a dominant D man
