I think if we were sitting in the bottom 10 and had lost about 5-6 more games there may have been a Conroy Kadri discussion but that move still isn’t easy. Does ownership want to retain on Kadri for Toronto for 4-5 years I highly doubt that. He doesn’t want to move he’s happy in Calgary and has that protection, pretty sure Tre also knows TO is the only place he’d go so that also means we have no leverage, your not getting Brock Nelson type package from Toronto.
Kadri is playing well and he’s a decent centre and we don’t have any proven ones. His cap hit will be very reasonable in 2 years with the cap rising and we likely regress. If he’s still a competitor at a 15 goal 40 point range he will have some value and may expand his trade list to chase another cup who knows.
I get that argument, but as you said a "decent season." If we are looking objectively at our roster and Kadri is the #1 center you have to look in the mirror and know that you dont have asperations of a Stanley cup this year. When he was the 7th best player on his roster and having his career year he won a cup. He is a great secondary piece but we have to be realistic here.
Eating $2Mill in salary will also be much less of an issue with the cap increasing over the next few years. Or we take Reaves and Jarnkrok back. I keep going back to Toronto making way too much sense.
Again all of this is a moot point if he doesn't want to go.
Even with notoriously secretive Treliving, I usually heard a few rumours from my friends at the organization and ex-Flames in a week leading to the trade deadline. Nothing this week. Nada.

Any other reclamation centers out there where we could look like bandits in a year or two? Mercer? Wright seems highly unlikely now... there were some whispers of Byfield though I'm not sure why (but would they take Rasmus at 50% and Zary?).

I mean the ducks have a lot of young centers that could work well here. Is there any appetite for a dance between the two clubs?
It happens in this universe, but there's a profound difference in managing regular employees to managing a troop of millionaires with oversized egos. One would think that a PhD might understand this, but it's possible that you're just a lonely university professor or something I guess.
Look, I can randomly attack your private life too!
I think I'm going to ask the mods if they can Form 10 you for your own good

Not a reclamation maybe more an unproven... I'm hoping for Rossi. Something around Rasmus for Rossi might be appealing for both sides.
McTavish or Zegras are still possibilities too I guess, but not sure we're great trade partners with the Ducks who are also still trying to improve going forward, would have to be more of a "hockey trade" (hate that term)
Just tuned into the Deadline coverage on sportsnet and surprise surprise.... they're talking about the oilers. Thank god Barnburner is doing coverage later.
TSN is doing a great job, SN's panel sucks.

Agreed and I get the wish from the tank crowd to dump him and Rasmus but has anyone done the research to see how many teams at the trade deadline that are in a playoff spot have dumped their number one center and a top 4 dman both with term and not UFAs? Probably never has happened so Conroy not moving these type of guys is the norm and not the exception.

Hm, I forgot about the smoke around Rossi. That'd be interesting though you'd wonder if the Wild are on his no trade list.
Right shot centers of note in the Flames acquisition preference just went to nil pretty much. Unless NJ comes swinging hard for Razz I don't see much put there.
Kunin to replace Rooney maybe.
Wright isn't available I don't think.
I thought Zegras was a right shot but he's not. So that's a no go.
I honestly don't know, my entire list of under 25 RHS center targets have all Ben dealt in the last 24 hours.

Do not want Jarnkrok. The guy was a complete waste of a roster spot in his first go round here. Did absolutely nothing!!
The focus of that trade would be Cowan, Reaves & Jarnkrok would be to make the money make sense to the Leafs, the 1st the cost for them to make it appealing to the Flames.
I don't hate it.
