What do you mean by ‘all time highs’? Can you qualify this?
Seems to me you’re on the edge of a meltdown over made up scenarios in your head. Which, I have to say, is on par.
Carry on, Monahammer.

Kadri is streaky but the low ebb of his play is still above the Cozens that we have largely seen in the NHL.
|
Kadri is a 34 year old post apex hockey player signed for 3 more years
Dylan Cozens is 24 on a terrible team with a bad coach. Being streaky at 24 is more acceptable than a 34 year old in my opinion.
It baffles me that Conroy says we wont trade for post apex players but is completely comfortable with keeping them on the roster.
Personally I feel that by moving Kadri would be very similar to the Flames walking away from Phillips in the AHL. It opened up playing time for Zary that really saw his game grow when asked to take on those extra minutes. But I understand there is risk with this decision.

The Rumour is that it will be a quiet day with the exception of trading spare parts and trying to land a young bottom pair D man.

I think Tre should trade for Marchand. I think Leafs fans would love that trade

Doesn't Toronto make a ton of sense - especially since he wants to stay in Canada? They are looking for a third line center, going for it this year and he can move up to second line next year if Tavares doesn't re-sign.
Treliving signed him - so there is that relationship too. Not to mention he is from the area and started his career there.

NYR told everyone that in 2018. And they did get two high picks. Hooray!! One of those picks is now in Seattle, the other is a good, but not elite, player. And much of their core of Panarin, Zibanejad, Trochek, Kreider, Trouba and now Miller I guess is 30+ years old. They still have Fox, Lafreniere and Shesterkin under 30 but their window is shrinking rapidly, and they aren't improving their position - currently not in a POs spot. Has anyone thought they were a serious contender in their whole rebuild? It's been 7 years and according to the tank proponents they should be entering into their prime contendership window.

All they were doing was pointing out you were wrong in stating if the Flames finish 11th last it moves automatically, because it doesn't.
The odds are it will, but it is not automatic.
I think your comment of "why is this so hard to understand", likely caused some of the reactions, especially when you were incorrect.

Yes, but Kadri has a No movement Clause, so if the Flames are going to trade him, it is going to be only to teams Kadri wants to play for. It also happens that Kadri wants to play for the Flames, by the sounds of it, he really really really likes it here.

Sounds like Cozens might be off the table as he is going to Ottawa for Josh Norris and Bernard-Docker.

I don’t want to be seen as jumping down your throat here, but was it Kadri who didn’t want to move or Craig who didn’t want to move him? That distinction is pretty important.
Ps thanks again for the tidbits.

Hard not to be bummed for Mantha today. I think that the Flames could have turned him into some quality futures.
Oh well.

Cozens seems to be overvalued here. He has had one good season and regressed since. And it can't be all on the team - Thompson, Dahlin, Peterka, Tuch and Zucker are all doing fine. Ryan Macleod is outscoring Cozens. And Cozens can't appear to play a defensive game at all.

Think it's mostly just that he might be a guy who benefits from a change of scenery.
"might" of course being a key word there.

I’d have no problem with a great return for Kadri, but the fact that he loves it here, has incredibly high GAF, has been mentioned as a role model for our franchise player level prospect, and relishes the mentor role makes him a pretty key piece for the next couple years.

That's a fair point. You definitely would need to work with him, I assumed he would be willing to go back to the Avalanche (since he waiting all offseason to see if they could open up cap room to keep him) or willing to go back home to Toronto while they are in their window.
I agree you need to respect the NMC but I assumed (and maybe wrongly) that those two landing spots would have worked out for all parties.

I think if we were sitting in the bottom 10 and had lost about 5-6 more games there may have been a Conroy Kadri discussion but that move still isn’t easy. Does ownership want to retain on Kadri for Toronto for 4-5 years I highly doubt that. He doesn’t want to move he’s happy in Calgary and has that protection, pretty sure Tre also knows TO is the only place he’d go so that also means we have no leverage, your not getting Brock Nelson type package from Toronto.
Kadri is playing well and he’s a decent centre and we don’t have any proven ones. His cap hit will be very reasonable in 2 years with the cap rising and we likely regress. If he’s still a competitor at a 15 goal 40 point range he will have some value and may expand his trade list to chase another cup who knows.
