One other thing to keep in mind is the Speaker needs to come from somewhere. If they are Liberal then that is one less Liberal caucus member. Maybe the smart play for Carney is to nominate an NDP member to the position.
Someone on CBC speculated Elizabeth May could be speaker. I don’t know if they were just throwing poop at the wall though.

For sure. i mistyped that. I meant the criticism of how he ran Brookfield. I mean when you buy stocks and mutual funds do you want someone pathetic and stupid in charge of the company?

Carney last night admitted himself he has made numerous mistakes and will continue to make them. But he is man enough to own up to those mistakes and learn from them.

Also did you not see me turn on Blackface Mr. Dressup? i was fanboying after he won his first election. Then we saw the real Turdeau... 3rd worst PM in Cdn history! I wish i could be a lemming. It must be so easy in life living it like a simpleton.

Long run I was hoping the conservatives would split back into two parties and get rid of the crazies... honestly the old PC party would have steamrolled everyone in this election, look at how well they are doing provincially these days especially in Ontario
Maybe this is a way out for the "progressive" cons to ditch the right wing by forming a coalition and letting the wackos freak out and leave and then the cons can re-form around a new moderate leader?

Scratch your head all you want, I'm right there with you in terms of how to fix a province that wants to 'vote for change' by voting the same way it always does. I don't need to label the province when it seems we have way too many people happy to vote for the Bloc Rednecois over and over.
You’re not wrong to feel however you do, but man that seems like a really pessimistic view on this topic. I hope you can come around a bit and have a brighter outlook towards this province.

Cheers

Right, like if the Conservatives had a right wing party similar to what the NDP is the Liberals, all the nutters can go over there. The Conservatives and Liberals could then go back to fighting over the centrist votes like they used to.

Isn't that what the PPC is supposed to be? Or the Heritage Party or whatever they're called?

Pessimistic or realistic? Look, I've lived in Calgary for nearly half my life now and all of it as an adult. I love it here and have zero intention of leaving. I get cautiously optimistic when I see things like Calgary Confederation flipping and Calgary Centre coming as close as it did.

But between this province's provincial and federal voting preferences, I also get a bit of a smack back to reality that there is a lot of daylight between where we are and getting real representation federally and competent representation provincially.

It's almost like the PC's should never have allowed the Reformers to swallow them whole. Instead the Reformers spent over a decade complaining that they were unelectable and it wasn't fair. Instead of, you know, changing to be less weird, they, well, first the did the opposite and put Stockwell Day in charge, then eventually took over. Now it's pretty obvious there are only scattered remnants of PC's left in the party, and they've fully transformed it back to that party no one wants to elect, except they now stand a chance because they don't have a vote split.

This, ultimately is the fault of Preston Manning, who has done more damage to traditional Conservatives than the Liberals have in the history of the country by eliminating them from Alberta and at the Federal level. I wish I lived in a timeline where he didn't exist.

Then you'd likely live in the 'Prime Minister Ben Mulroney' timeline, I mean do you really want that?

Ben wouldn't have had his brain toxified by the Manning right, so he may have been just fine. Tough to know, the dude went off the deep end so rapidly in the past few years I honestly didn't even recognize him on the radio initially. "Who's this far right bloviator they found to fill air time? He's worse than usual" was my first thought.

In Canada a socially progressive and economically conservative party, that has rational takes on things like immigration (skilled immigration good) and investing in public services (schools / hospitals) would probably be very successful right now.

The problem is the conservative party in Canada and internationally has really started to focus on the extreme right view points socially, as well as cutting funding for things like education and health care - which is going to turn too much of the voting base against you especially in places like Toronto and Ottawa where so much of the voting populous is concentrated.

In the US where it's two party system it's tougher, but in Canada the conservative party would be smart to let those more extreme right wing view points move to the Heritage Party or PPC and focus more on being a bit more rational and socially progressive.

If thats what the Cons want to become they can do it but not with Pierre leading. He doesnt want to change, he wants the voters to come to where he is. Theres a reason they took the word progressive out of their name.

It's not just a Pierre thing. It's the party leadership, and a heck of a lot of the MPs, who are those far right wing people they should be angling away from.
