Cut her some slack. She's just asking for advice on how she should properly quit her job without maybe burning bridges. Of course, judging from what I've read, it doesn't sound like she'll return.
Anyways, I'd say be smart about it. After working at Superstore for five years, I just suddenly quit without saying anything. It was stupid on my part, because late last year when I was looking for work, I could have probably returned to Superstore but because I burned my bridges with them, I couldn't. This actually could go for anyone else that's been working at a job for along while, and wants to quit. Don't burn your bridges, I learned that myself.
The best thing you can do, regardless, is at least let the manager know and if they have you on the schedule for next week, I'd say work that final week if they need you. I recently got hired on at Indigo out at Cross Iron Mills mall, back in July actually. Two weeks ago I got another job with the Gap at their new Deerfoot Meadows location, closer for me so that's why I took it. I phoned my supervisor at Indigo, and that was good enough for her.

Holy bizzare assumptions dude. I'm just surprised a bunch of you feel the need to chime in with the exact same thing page after page and post after post. I was just saying let's let it go; I wasn't trying to bone her.

I have a hard time letting go on the Miss Kat threads.
But, uhm, thanks for the advice anyways, Dr Phil, and feel free to let it go anytime. I know I might.

What's hilarious is that she's making a big deal out of trivial, insignificant things. Complaining about couples who walk in a mall ?
It's normal to have some pet peeves but at this point, this is just pathetic whining and her threads probably indicate that she has little to hold on life. Drama queens who make such a big deal about pointless things deserve to get bashed in the head.

Ok... let me clear something up. If MissKat quits... she won't get EI. It would have to be a constructive dismissal situation to get any sort of EI if you quit, and it doesn't sound like that's the case here.
EI does not equal welfare. If you haven't worked the hours required and the reason you are no longer working doesn't jive with the government (trust me, they will investigate each case), then don't rely on EI to supplement your income.
You can always still fill out an app... but it will be 2 months before they call you and say you are denied. In fact... go ahead and start the app online, and if you answer honestly that you quit, you'll see a bunch of reasons to select from, and it will tell you right away if you are sol or what situation you need to be in for it to be approved.
Freak, this ain't rocket science. God damn internet has lead people to rely on it far too much and instead of putting an ounce of effort into their own question, they just find it easier to ask a message board and have others tell them what to do. Misskat... here's a suggestion... just quit already, it's a crappy mall sales job, not a high end corporate position. I'd be a bit embarassed if I had to ask how to quit a position like that. After you finally quit (IF you do, and I doubt you will) then fill out the EI app and you will see how screwed you are for not finding a job before quitting the other one.
Oh... and where is the god damn picture you drama queen.

Do you really want all your company questions and dirty laundry secrets posted on CP?

Is it a job that you would use the reference from in another job, or do you work in an industry in which future jobs would know how you left your current one.
If its just an external job you used for money I would pack up my stuff and send an email out friday before you leave saying - blah blah blah great company blah blah blah but I quit.

If I could offer only my point of view it would be stop messing around with things you care nothing for. Get out and do what you love. Go figure it out. I did it. Thankfully, I had a very supportive cast of characters in my life so I'm very lucky. I'm aware not everyone can just go back to school or travel or whatever. But you'll never be happy moving from one menial job to another. I love my job more than anything. I can finally say that. If you can, just go back to school or whatever and figure it out. It's never too late.
As for quitting, girl-up and go to your boss' office.
"Hi Sally. I'd like to tell you that I don't think this job is working out for me. It's been a great opportunity and thank you for that opportunity."
Say goodbye and that's all. It's not like she can beat you up. And if she does hit you, then you'll get a good settlement. Managers in that field are likely used to high-turnovers. You won't ruin her day. I'd just be careful that you don't ruin your coworkers days by leaving them shorthanded. Do it on your days off or end of a shift, imo.
And, correct me if i'm wrong, but didn't the people that hired you post the job posting here on CP?
You may already have been fired.
