What, exactly, are you looking for? Her to hug you and tell you it's okay? If you've only been there that short of a time, the reference will likely be junk anyways, if that's what you're gunning for.

Anyone here worked for Blockbuster before or know anyone? I heard their starting hourly wage is $14/hr, which seems a bit high and very surprising. I would think it would be around $8-10?

Ya I'm on a 3 month probation. I know I technically am not required to give 2 weeks notice but I will just to be professional and I don't screw everyone over in needing to cover my scheduled shifts. I like just about everyone there, and 2 of the bosses are cool and I really enjoy working for them. But the big lady boss is a total fake 2 faced moody sexist anal beotch. If I don't quit now, I know ill end up getting let go at the end of the 3 month probation period anyways. So I figure why not just go it now and get it over with.

That's not the main reason why I'm quitting though.

Answer this: What is there to lose if you just call in and notify them? That should suffice.

Also you're asking us to answer your question, but based on a reason that isn't the actual reason.

Kinda pointless

1.5 months it doesn't matter. I would just phone them right now and I am no longer coming in. Done. What are they going to say? No you can't quit and we expect to see you tommorrow! Then you tell them to Fata off and it is done.

They can fire you at any time within the first 3 months, you should be able to quit whenever you want within those 3 months as well.

Or better yet show up to work with no pants on and act like nothing is up. See how long it takes them.

The reason you would give a written 2 weeks notice is that it shows respect for the employer. It helps if you ever find yourself in need of getting a job again.

It isn't a good idea to burn bridges.

Calling up an employer and saying you aren't coming to work today is immature. Good luck ever getting some sort of reference from them. It screws up their schedule and causes problems.

Would you actually put a 1.5 month job on your resume and use them as a reference?

I think you can do it without being completely rude. Just because you don't owe them anything doesn't mean that you have to be a prick about it.

I would at least come in the next day and explain that the job wasn't working out for me and that I wouldn't be continuing.

^ Edit: what he said

Meh.
Having been in management type roles at crappy jobs in the past, I can honestly say that I hate people who decide to no show as it shows how inconsiderate and ignorant they are of others.

It's fine if it's a crap job, at least have the decency to make a courtesy call so the people who do work there as a means to put food on a table can make arrangements to have someone else cover.

Grow the fata up, how old are you, 15? Walk in there, tell them the job isn't for you, and that you won't be coming back to work. If the job is as sh***y for you as you make it out to be, there's a good chance they won't be surprised.

Well, in my experience, the crappy jobs I've worked have had crappy management that treated those who worked under them as equally crappy. Can't speak for you, but they weren't exactly considerate and all-knowing of others, either. So I suppose the feeling's mutual.

So I just quit my summer job before heading back to college and I just wrote a letter. Just a word of advice, don't burn any bridges you may have with the manager.

Is your boss a woman? Go into her office, get up close, grab a breast and go for some tongue.

Either you'll get fired, or you'll get laid and be able to make some extra money selling the videos on the interweb! It's win-win!

Wow, you screwed that letter up big time. You forgot the name of the company, what your last day will be, and your name. Those are very critical pieces of information to have in a resignation letter. One day down the road you're going to use that company as a reference, and only then will you realize how much you screwed up, when you get a bad reference.
