man this is a dumb ass franchise.
Giordano leads all skaters with 27 minutes of ice time. Lindholm gets 24.
Ruzicka gets less than 10.
Hats off Sutter. at this stage, playing to win is quite simply an ego trip, "see I got them to within 2 points that season I was brought in".
Joke of a team/franchise.

I still think this is more on the coaching. I don’t think either team is trying that hard out there but we need to be dressing the kids and not playing our top players all the time.
I feel like if the team really mails it in and loses then Sutter makes their lives more difficult. They are putting in the minimum effort and still winning because the Canucks are playing with a far more depleted lineup.
Hockey players play to win the game not strategically lose to pick a handful of spots higher in the draft. The beef is with how the people in power are deploying the players not the players themselves

Especially when there's a 50-50 chance if not less that they'll ever end up playing with whoever gets drafted in that spot.

with this long win streak to end the season, the players are going to feel 10 feet tall and bulletproof over the summer.
They will be training with their boys and chirping on them hard on how h\they ripped off a few wins to wrap up the season.
Sets up us well for the 2021-2022 campaign

Just as infuriating as the team this year is us!
On the GDT it's all "just win" "show some heart" "let's see what the young guys can do".
Then they go out and do all that which is enough to win, and it's "they suck" "losing culture" "why are they trying."
Big sigh from me.

Anyone else have the sense that Sutter and Treliving are not really sympatico?
The recurring comments about the club not having enough offensive talent can't be something a GM on the job for seven years wants to hear.

Athletes are wired to play to win, that is what got them here. I don't fault the players for playing to win. A lot of them are playing for their next contract or a spot in the NHL. You have bigger issues on your team if you have players that don't have that mindset. As much as I want to bring up the heat, the 4 recall rule kind of stops that from happening.

I would definitely say Sutter is someone who knows what it takes to win and when he came here and saw the group Treliving believes is supposed to win he probably had a good laugh.

The smoke is at forest fire level at this point I feel. It felt that when he was hired that it was very strongly an ownership decision that was forced upon Treliving, and now with Sutter's comments the past couple of post games, he's coming off very critical of the work his 'boss' has complied. Even saying things that he was brought in to "straighten things out."
I think his true boss are the owners, and Darryl's input will hold a lot of weight in Treliving's fate as the GM by the end of this week - if he's even still internally at this point. The complete radio silence after elimination, and even moreso since trade deadline is telling for someone that's on the hot seat.
Kinda wonder also with John Davidson vacancy, if ownership is doing behind the scenes work to bring him in a president ops since that's a vacant position that really should be filled.

I would think that Brad Treliving recognizes his own shortcomings as far as the team is concerned. Sutter is only saying what everyone else can see and many people have posted here. It's coming from Darryl that's the difference and that's probably why he was brought in here and it's been said, to evaluate.
If you look at the Flames org chart, there's only one person between Treliving and the ownership group and that's John Bean, President and CEO.
Sure, the owners can see the team isn't playing that great and missed the playoffs but the intricacies of everything still have to be evaluated.
And that's why I believe there will changes. Maybe Brad stays but some other people will go for sure.

Hm. I think you're not looking at it within the context of the entire game, let alone the season as a whole.
Sure, their effort was 'enough to win.' Against a terrible opponent and even then just barely, in overtime (which is a crapshoot) and papers over the fact that they blew a 4-goal lead in the 3rd period.
Somehow I'm skeptical that Sutter sauntered into the dressing room afterwards issuing high-fives and proclaiming:
"Great game boys! You did just enough to win!!"

If Treliving’s fate is in Sutter’s hands, this franchise is dysfunctional.

This is why I’ve been thinking maybe Tre becomes the President of Hockey Operations - basically Burke’s old position since Bean in atop the entire CSEC.
