I'd try that, like I said elsewhere in a lineup I proposed. But I think GG wants to keep Bennett with Jankowski because they've had success. Plus, he wants to keep the lines as intact as possible. Brouwer up means the other change is only on the bottom line, with as small an impact as possible.
The lines practice together, so it makes some sense to disrupt the existing lines as little as possible.

my lord am I sick with the GG narrative. Its a gameday, curb the conversation until the PGT. If I have to stop reading GDT,GT and PGT there is little left to read on CP (other then sureloss, always appreciated)

To do anything else requires you break up the top line (and then find a replacement for Ferland there), or the third line that's been doing well (and find a replacement for Hathaway or Bennett), or play a kid with one game under his belt on the second (and main checking) line.

My guess on the jagr update is that he is shut down for 4-6 weeks to heal his nagging injury and conditioning. Obviously not ideal, but the timing could work that he's just getting into prime form around March. Neither the team nor the player seem like they're the type to be ok with quitting on the situation.

At least if you play a kid there the risk is that he's simply not ready and you make the necessary adjustments. Brouwer is a known quantity, and that quantity is that he sucks moose balls on any line he's on.
For as long as I can remember this organization has hesitated or refused to put young players in key situations when the opportunity arises, and instead "plays it safe" with overpaid veteran bums just like Brouwer getting those opportunities time and again. And people wonder why we seem to have such a hard time developing prospects.
Like seriously, would Mangiapane wither to ash if he were given some linemates with skill to play with on the second line instead of dragging around Lazar and Stajan?

A few thoughts in regard to the Brouwer debate:
First is that the 2nd line is the shut down checking line. I don't think it would be wise to put some rookie in that role, especially one without much experience on the roster.
Second, is that we know Tkachuk is going to raise some hell. Brouwer can hold his own in a scrum, and lord knows he is going to be thrust into a few.
Finally, this doesn't disrupt the other two lines who are playing well together, and it adds much needed speed to the 4th line.

I would bump Bennett...
Bennett - Backlund - Tkachuk
Mangiapane - Jankowski - Hathaway
and finish it off with...
Lazar - Hrivik - Brouwer
Against the Kings, I want size and speed.

So... all perfectly acceptable solutions.

I don't mind Brouwer with Tkachuk as he will drag his linemates into things. Plus with the whole Dohboy history, it might not be a bad idea having Brouwer there in case LA wants to take shots at Tkachuk. Hell with Brouwer there, Tkachuk may be more inclined to stir things up.

He's going to be asked to defend against the top line of LA if he's put in that role. I like his prospects but that isn't exactly putting him in a position to succeed.
As for adjustments, they can work the other way too, if Brouwer isn't getting it done.

So you're saying you'd rather see Brouwer put in that position?!
I mean, I guess #1 PK man and letter-wearer Troy Brouwer already kind of is in that position, but the numbers certainly don't suggest he should be, and is a major failing of this coaching staff IMO. Their failure to recognize this is getting close to a fireable offense in itself.

I suggested that before except with Tkachuk with Monahan and Ferland on the second line, but it sounds like they want to give Hrivik a game or two to practice.
I still think they should try Stajan on the fourth line wing, so you could use him instead of Lazar if you aren't happy with Lazar's play.

I'd rather see a 21 year old one game rookie (who's 5'10" and not noted for a defensive game) play on the fourth line than the top checking line. I'd rather see a 6'3" veteran who, though he has had a terrible couple years for his standards, is still a defensive minded guy and plays on the PK fill in for a game or two. Especially when this changes the lines for only that line and the fourth
When there's time to practice new lines, I'd move Brouwer back down with Hrvik, put Mangiapane with Jankowski and Hathaway and put Bennett on the second line (Tkachuk moves to RW either on the top line or the second with ferland on the other line).
