You forgot the best part of the quote:

With tongue firmly planted in cheek, Scott added Wednesday: “You never know. There’s still some time left. I could turn it on.”

I hope John Scott makes it. I hope he's the captain. I hope he wins player of the game.

Fan voting will always be dumb. A league always tries to get their fans involved in as many things as possible, but then you get Fitzpatricks and Scotts grabbing headlines and turning fan voting into even more of a circus.
This 1000%. I would actually tune in if they had a legit shinny game. The worst part of the whole thing is the skills competitions.

^^^ Hardest shot is genuinely awesome though.

Accuracy shooting is sick too.

It is ridiculous that such a large amount of fans are successfully voting a goof like Scott into the all star game.
It is like there is no sense of pride, it used to be an honor for a player to be voted into the allstar game. The NHL needs to filter a much more narrow choice selection who fans can actually vote for. Based stricly on stats and position.

Just curious though, why wouldn't you vote for all Flames players? Obviously Jagr, Ovi & Kane will make it, so why vote for them?
It's not about stats, it's about seeing what sort of plays various trios of elite players can string together in this $1 million dollar 3v3 mini tournament. Even a non-Flame fan can appreciate some of the highlight reel plays Johnny can contribute to and empathize when those plays die on another players stick.

If it was about stats then I'd be spoiling the ballots in the other divisions with Scott-like players.

Voting is per division, so I can't choose all Flames players.

I'm choosing what I think would result in a 2nd player being chosen from the teams the players are on, though I think the Flames will end up with only 1 player representative regardless.

With Jagr saying he won't play (picked him b/c Luongo will be the NHL pick), I'm switching to Pacioretty because we know Carey Price will be there if healthy.

Ovi I picked because I don't think Carlson can win the vote-off in the Metropolitan (he's 32nd in voting for that division) and an Ovi win might have the NHL concede another spot for the Capitals.

Kane winning helps send Toews as well.

Johnny getting a vote is to try to ensure he goes; like I said, I think we only get one player regardless but if can manage to get in Brodie too, who in my extremely biased eyes is well under-rated, that makes the game more interesting to watch.

Of course you being a Sabres fan would find it hilarious.

Your All-Star from last year has 4 points in 21 games.

I'm not a huge all star fan but I hate the whole voting in someone who really shouldn't be there. Scott shouldn't be there at all. Why not vote in an all rookie team or something? Instead of letting people make a mockery of it, why not let some kids who actually love being in the NHL have a shot. To some people it's just a joke but some people actually really like it and I'm sure some players do too, things like this just take it away from those people.

It's like saying "I don't like it so I'm going to ruin it so no one can like it"

But what about the fans who actually like it and want to see the leagues top stars? Sure, you're sticking it to the NHL but what about them?

Do you only want to see Scott play because he's terrible? I'd rather see Johnny or Bennett or Brodie instead of him.

Honestly I probably won't watch the All Star Game unless Scott plays. I want to see Gaudreau bounce pucks in off his head.

The fans who actually like to watch the stars play hockey are in luck. Those same stars play hockey 82 times a year. Remember, hockey is 5 skaters and a goalie vs 5 skaters and a goalie.

If fans want to see "stars" play 3 v 3 shinny, then they can go vote. There is obviously a sizable chunk of fans who think it would be awesome to have John Scott there, so they voted. Why not spread some of the all-star love (and money) around?

No matter how you slice it, the ASG is just a meaningless event.
