I don't see the need for the flames to overpay for the 5th pick. As lots of people on here seem to covet Richie I think we'd be better paying less for a pick in the 8-11 range, and grabbing him there. Plus I think taking him at 5 is a bit of a stretch.

I do not see both teams being a good fit for trading. If the Isles want help my guess is they want a 25-28 aged player versus 30+ years old help. The only guys that really fit that age bracket are Backlund, Bouma, Byron, Colborne. Maybe a Backlund+ deal works but I do not see Burke giving up a somewhat established young player for a pick. Trading Backlund puts the rebuild a step back, in the sense that Backlund is developed vs getting a non developed prospect.

Came for the comically lowball offers. Leaving satisfied.

Isles would trade Dal Colle/Drasaitl Reinhart and a pick for Sven, an anchor contract and a well paid small forward??? Why would they do that exactly?

To do what the title of the thread suggests. Get immediate help with Sven, Hudler and Wideman.

Well they're not going to trade a top 5 pick for those pieces. That's the equivalent of the Phaneuf trade.

I'd much rather trade for an established player than the 5th pick.

That would likely be the worst package they get offered. Drasaitl/Dal Colle would likely fetch a much better player(s). Sven is not immediate help

I could still really see Oil trade their pick for Griffen Reinhart off Isles.

The only piece the Flames have that the isle would be interested in is Giordano. He's our only star level talent in his prime. The Isle aren't moving a top pick for depth players that could be had for free as FAs. The Isle certainly don't need prospects like Sven. The reason they are considering moving their pick is an excess of those already.

Well we got Wideman... Hey you said experienced D not great or good experienced D.
We got Baertchi, which in order to even remotely entice them you are going to have to give up something. I still think Baertchi holds great value and can break out to become a very good hockey player but 1st rounders aren't cheap.

If they want a guy like Giordano... they are going to be holding onto their pick, because no one is going to offer anything like that up to them.

You don't think the Canucks would be interested in ramping up their rebuild by moving Kesler for the 5th overall pick?

So that leaves the veteran crap people here don't want - Isles won't do that. Or young prospects no more proven than the pick New York would be trading - neither the Flames nor the Isles would do that.
We are simply not a fit.

Ordinarily I would completely agree but with them likely giving up their 1st next year as well as Tavares wanting to see some forward progress they might accept quality veterans.
I think you're probably right that we aren't a fit but it wouldn't shock me if the Islanders accept veteran help.

ya, i don't see the flames being much of a partner for them if that's the case.
Only dman we have that the team should be willing to move, and has any remote value, is Wideman, but the return he would garner would be quite low compared to a top5 pick.

You mean Wideman and a third rounder won't get it done?! what if we throw in an unrestricted free agent in Butler?
