You would probably say not this this this this or this. you can have what is on this list.
The Isles lack scoring and goaltending more than anything, so I don't know if Brodie would be #1 on their list and I think he'd be one of the untouchables on our end.

A lot of you are willing to give up a lot for the 5th round pick in a weak draft... Not saying there aren't great players in the draft but remember that most scouts project Reinhart and Bennett to be 2nd line centres.... even Eckblad is thought to be a 2nd defenseman more than a number 1.
I'll keep baertschi thanks.

Still think you consider it, and brodie might be my favourite flame. drafting twice in the top ten may not work out each and every time, but it could be the home-run the club needs.
4th and 5th overall last year would have been seth jones and lindholm, year before griffin reinhart and morgan rielly, and the year before that larsson and strome.
crazy shot in the arm for the talent of the prospect pool and even our best mid-twenties player isn't out of the question.

Glencross and Wideman are about all I would be willing to give up for a 5th overall in this years draft, as far as players go that the Isles would likely have any interest in. That trade doesn't get you the pick and I wouldn't be willing to trade anything more.
I also can't see Glencross waiving the NMC to go to the Isles of all places.

Would love to have the 4th and 5th pick this year. Would not be opposed to making this happen one bit.

Truthfully, we don't have the assets the Islanders would want. They will want youngish but established players. About the only one of those we possess is Brodie - and maybe Backlund. Neither has the high-end talent level New York would want, and I can't see us being willing to give up both.
So that leaves the veteran crap people here don't want - Isles won't do that. Or young prospects no more proven than the pick New York would be trading - neither the Flames nor the Isles would do that.
We are simply not a fit.

Since 2006 #4 and #5 were
Nik Backstrom + Phil Kessel
Hickey + Alzner (6 and 7 were Gagner + Voracek if you're looking at F)
Pietrangelo + Schenn (Filatov Wilson and Boedker right after up front)
Kane + Schenn
Johansen + Niederitter
Larsson + Strome (Zibanejad next)
Reinhart + Reilly
Jones + Lindholm (Mono next)
none of those top 5 forwards have busted entirely, and only Filatov did of the subsequent F taken in drafts that had actual D-men in it.

So far I have learned from this thread is that Brodie is not talented enough and Gio is not worth much.
However, possible top pairing d-man if he develops and a bunch of 2nd line centers if they develop in few years are worth 3 to 4 of our top prospects.
Makes sense, but it is a good thing Burke is not an idiot.

The Islanders are a mess. They don't know if they're rebuilding or re-tooling. Why trade Moulson and Vanek if you want immediate help?

not a chance I'd trade Brodie.....Hudler, GlenX, etc....if the Islanders need help now though I see too many other teams with better "now" assets to snag the 5th.
But it is Garth Snow.....magic 8-ball anyone?

When do the Isles have to make a decision in regards to giving the sabres a pick. They would be better off to do it now, as the #10 pick next year is likely more valuable than #5 this year.
If, as I suspect, Florida is looking to move #1 for immediate help, this has to be disturbing news. The islanders screwed up the market for rental wingers at the deadline, and I suspect it will be the same for top 10 picks at the draft. This is good for the flames, as they (should) have no business trading their pick, but plenty of business acquiring another.
And if I know anything about Burke, he is vengeful. The isles screwed him out of getting value for Cammy at the deadline, so he will make it his mission to TAKE. The isles pick for little value.
I look forward to it.

Don't agree at all.
Flames have developed Backlund into a good two-way center who is quite probably going to continue to get better.
Don't see why they would be quick to trade him for a prospect that would be at the bottom of the top tier of an average draft class.
Just seems like a regressive gamble when you are trying to build a team.

While I agree they're a mess, it's pretty obvious they thought they could make a real push this year, so acquired Vanek. It then became obvious they were going to miss and had to move him for something or a terrible trade would be even worse.
They were ravaged by injuries on D. They're not as good as they thought but not as bad as they look.

I think you're on to something, maybe add a 2nd and it might get it done. I have a feeling they're pretty high on Griffin though.

If this draft is regarded as weak, I think that is when you should take the opportunity to buy low.
Drafting early isn't just about getting a shot at picking guys in their consensus position, it's being early enough to grab someone you have identified as being better than their consensus position. Ottawa with Karlsson for example.

the draft may be considered "weak" but the top 5 are still high end if you ask me
not a chance they trade backlund for 5 though nor should they. I don't think some of you realize the season Backlund had he is becoming one of the better 2-way players in the game and that is what this team is all about

The Flames already have the 4th pick so I don't see any need to also acquire the 5th. It's not like there are any twins in this draft. If the Flames are putting together a package for a trade it should be for a RHD, RW or 2015 1st rounder.

I see your point, BUT, if u think Dal Colle and/or Draisatl are game changers, then u do it.
Burke's ideology is:
Top 6 has a lot of skill, with as much size and truculence as possible, while the bottom 6 has a lot of size and truculence and size, and as much skill as possible.
If you don't think that Backlund is a #1 or #2 centre on a Stanley cup team, then don't count on him sticking around. Especially with Stajan being locked up.

Brodie (and Giordano) is the only name that has come up that I think would interest the Islanders.
It is very, very expensive to trade into the top 5 without having a high pick as part of the package.

Well, Bennett and Dal Colle were born in the same city on the same day. We could call them the Non-Pony twins if it means we can get both.
