So does that speak to the quality of our youth? We need more veterans to screw it up for us if we're to get the top 3 pick and draft another superstar young gun so we can speed up our youth movement. But no, we get red of vets, or they get injured and the young guys come up and we start winning! Oh well, winning is a good thing. It would be nice to have two or three bonafide superstars in the making, but if we get the right guys we don't need the top pick for 5 years in a row.

There was a mock draft that had the Flames taking Virtanen 4th overall, and it may be that combined with the hometown factor that's getting mentions. It's like the mock drafts last year that had the Flames picking Shinkaruk or Fucale at 6th. Just awful.

Dal Colle is a good player. I think he could play RW just fine, by the way, so the fact that he's a LW isn't a big deal.

LOL

Do you have a link to these mock drafts?

Am I wrong? Is this year not shaping up exactly like last year? Harden up.

I also think that our days of excess LW'ers are pretty much gone anyway, at least from a reasonably forward looking standpoint. If we end up with a winger, I don't think it matters which side he plays at this point.

Heres the Fucale one. Shinkaruk by the end of the season was mostly out of top 10.

Oh god am I happy we didn't take Fucale.

It would have been cool to have our 2nd rounder and have chosen him with that exact same pick, but eeeeeesh to goalies in the 1st round.

We are 4th last. 2nd through 5th last are only separated by 5 points. EDM, FLA and BUF acquired goalies at the deadline. FLA seems clearly improved with Luongo. Plenty of time for us to finish anywhere in 2nd-5th last. NSH and CAR just won and NSH recently got Rinne back so we likely won't catch them.

So your statement is premature. We can finish with a top 3-4 draft pick still. We could still win the lottery. Let's see how it shakes out before bemoaning our fate.

I wouldn't be dissapointed with dal colle he is the least physically developed of the top five so theres no way he starts in the nhl next year. But being thinner is probably affecting his point totals considering he plays a power forward game. If he goes back to junior next year and packs on some pounds he still has the potential to be the best forward out of the draft. Power wingers are almost as valuable as centers.

A lot of fans of other teams thought it was funny that the Habs were able to take Fucale with our 2nd round pick ... for some reason thinking we would have taken him for sure. We had no need for him then or now.

I have been to a few Generals games this year and he always impresses. He is a bit of a clutch performer.

Well that's true, it's premature, but everything in every draft thread is premature. I just think that by the end of the season, with their recent play, Carolina and Nashville have legitimate chances to pass us. Florida's goaltending is better, but they are still terrible and are lower than us. Their schedule is also pretty nasty. Edmonton will stay below us for sure because their kids are trying to get the coach fired. Buffalo, Edmonton, Islanders, Florida will finish lower than us, I don't think this is an unreasonable prediction.

As far as the pick, if the first four are gone Dal Colle is the one I think.

It's more of a thought about your posting style which has changed to downright whiny lately, usually ending with some sort of sad faced emoticon. Very MainFlame lite unfortunately. Which is too bad because you never were such a downer.

Also... Although Ekblad definitely seems incredible, am I the only one who really hopes we take a forward, our ability to score is a lot worse than our defense right now. (Not that I'd be upset with Ekblad)
I have always felt that it is a bad idea to try and acquire brothers like that.

1) there is a tendency to over-value them, thinking that there is some kind of benefit to the team - chemistry or whatever, and

2) (the more important one) it becomes harder to trade them and manage assets properly. If one of them isn't a good fit and should be moved for other assets, it becomes a bit harder because there is risk that the brothers will be negatively affected.

Whether or not there is an actual negative, there is definitely a risk that it clouds asset management decisions.

I think Dal Colle would be a nice consolation prize to Bennett.

If we finish with the 3rd pick - Bennett all the way. If we finish with the 4th or 5th, I'm hoping for Dal Colle.

That's probably 30% of my posts. If you want to focus the negative ones, I can't help that.

The hockey gods have crushed my spirit.
