No.

I'm a huge fan of Virtanen, always my favorite player on the ice at Hitmen games. I love that he can put up points and throw hits and crosschecks. He is for sure a first rounder (maybe around 15?) but he is not top five.

+ gritty along the boards
+ Calgary Hitman

1. Ekblad, 2. Reinhart, 3. Virtanen
for me
All those highlights are Virtanen coming in on a rush which is how he gets the majority of his points. Not very effective in a cycle.

Dal Colle is better finding open spots in the offensive zone and playing around the net and getting open for his teammates. He also can setup plays but that's not his game really.

Something like this, maybe, if these two teams have top ten picks?

1) Calgary's 2014 1st for Carolina's 2014 1st and D Ryan Murphy
2) LW Sven Baertschi and Calgary's 2014 2nd for Carolina's 2014 1st and RW Tuomo Ruutu

We end up with D Fleury, D Murphy and RW Virtanen. Just throwing around some thoughts.

I could see Burke trading Cammy for a late 1st. And then trading that first plus something to move up in the draft. So we'd have a top 3-5 pick, and then maybe a 12-15 pick. Could grab Bennett with our first pick and potentially Fleury if he drops out of the top 10.

I think Virtanen will be moving up into the top 5 before the year is done. I'm pretty high on this guy. I believe at the CHL All-Star game, he was the fastest skater 30M front and backwards. His shot is freakin unbelievable, hits like a truck, is already big, and has a mean streak. Yes please- he is my choice if we do not get Ekblad as I think this is a "can't miss" player.

Bennet scored himself a Hatty today + 1 assist.

Bennett is getting up to Ekblad levels of want for me this year. I'll be giddier than a school girl if the Flames can land Ekblad or Bennett.

The last thing the Flames need to do is trade down for lesser talent.

I'd be extremely stoked if we ended up picking Bennett
I'd be very stoked if we ended up picking Dal Colle
I have a bad feeling about Draisaitl, hope we do not pick him.

Don't think we have a chance at Reinhart or Ekblad.

Back in 2003 people talked about Getzlaf in that manner. Had he been selected with the 5th pick in that draft, nobody would bat an eye at that today. Still lots of time for players to move up or down.

So now that we're closer to the draft, who does everyone see us taking? Who do you think is the most Burke-type player?

I'm starting to think we're gonna be high on Dal Colle, since he's drawing comparisons to Bobby Ryan, who Burke was high on in his draft year.

It depends where we finish or if we win the lottery to be honest. A top 3 pick would be really nice and is still possible! I don't think we will out suck Buffalo.

I'd love to get Sam Reinhart and trade for Griffin!

Beartschi + Rights to Cammalleri for Griffin Reinhart at the draft right after we select Sam!

Ekblad seems to be Burke's #1 choice.

I would agree the Dal Colle would be among his top 5.

Burke-type players: Ritchie and Dal Colle.

Players we should go far if available (and the others are taken): Ekblad, Virtanen, or Fleury.

Obviously Ekblad is a stretch.

We're probably going to be high on Dal Colle because Reinhart, Ekblad, Bennett and Draisaitl are likely going to be gone by the time we pick.

We're getting screwed at the last minute again this year.

The Islanders would not trade for the rights to Cammy because he won't sign there.

If the Flames were to pry Griffin out of Long Island, I believe they would have to involve an almost ready, or ready, defenseman. Think Sieloff ++, Wotherspoon ++, or even Brodie, which I would never do.

I was going to make a comment that it would be incredible if we could get all 3 Reinharts here in Calgary.

For me it's pretty close between Bennett and Reinhart (if we had the first pick), but the fact that he would get to play with his brother really makes me want him to come here

Also... Although Ekblad definitely seems incredible, am I the only one who really hopes we take a forward, our ability to score is a lot worse than our defense right now. (Not that I'd be upset with Ekblad)

Then we can hire Paul Reinhart as a scout or Very Special Assistant to the Assistant GM... then trade for all the Staals. I can see/hear the announcers now:

"Some Reinhart dishes it to another Reinhart, over to Staal, no wait that's... a different Staal... Staal to Reinhart to Staal. He shoots! Monahan scores! Tips it in!"

A stud defenseman would certainly be nice.

But I can't shake the idea of kicking off the rebuild with 2 top centres as being super dooper awesome.
