Back to the OP's stupid(ish) question, who are these idiots who have arrest warrants out for them and still contemplate taking a vacation to Mexico? I would be killing myself in anxiety and guilt, if I knew that I could be arrested, more-so if I knew that I owed hundreds of dollars in fines.

Did your old bf, like to do it doggie style?
Actually I started to think about this for a minute and me and my brain decided not to think about it too much longer.

That's what I don't get. If this person is going to Mexico, then he can pay his fines too.
I don't get why people do things like this to themselves willingly. Why risk your freedom, reputation and finances when you can take 1 hour out of your day and correct everything. What possible benefit can there be?

I did not go through the entire 5 pages, of what is likely comments (rightful so IMO) questioning the ethics of not just paying off the tickets prior to travel. I mean, whether he has a car or not, if he stays in Canada it will catch up to him at some point.
That said, I can give you some insight behind a situation that just happened to a friend of mine. He was recently pulled over for a traffic infraction. When the police ran his information they found out he had a warrant for his arrest regarding an previous unpaid traffic ticket. Turns out this guy hired POINTS to fight a traffic ticket for him, paid POINTS their fee, but not the negotiated fine on-top of that to the crown. He was taken to processing, where he just paid it and he was free to go.
Logical answer following this is yes, he will likely be flagged a the boarder and detained.

Or the classic definition of a 'deadbeat.' The whole reason he has the tickets in the first place is because he was trying to dodge paying for things he doesn't feel like paying for (C-train ticket at least). Is it really a surprise that the concept of the thread is centered around the concept of having enough money to go to Mexico but yet somehow dodging the negative implications of not paying for other things.

A few years ago, my buddy went and backpacked Europe for three months. Upon return, tired as heel, and broke as a joke, they hauled him in for fines. Spent the night in jail over it.

Usually because they're ignorant little boys who foolishly believe they are smarter than the system/rest of society. They're the smartest criminal ever! Yet they some how still managed to get caught committing the original offenses that put them in this position they are in now in the first place. The arrogance is really just astounding.
OP, man-up and pay the fines. Or don't, and tell your friend to enjoy his time the boys in blue when you get home.

If he brings his own vaseline to aid in the cavity search, remember that liquids and gels over 100ml must be in his checked baggage and cannot be in the carry on.

So this time last year I went down to Cancun with some buddies for a bachelor party.. We had a big group from all over Canada, Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Edmonton and even Calgary.. Well my buddy had a similar situation to your buddy, he had un paid tickets with both the Cowtown Cops and the C-Train authorities.
We took the plane to Cancun, got off and through customs fine, high fived a bit, I talked about how bad I wanted a pilsner etc.. etc..
We behaved a little out of control on the trip.. did some dumb crap.. but we were pretty sure we got away scott free.. even though it required us checking out of our hotel a little early to avoid being tracked down, just incase. My buddy made it back on to the plane and into Canada but was arrested by the customs agents at Cowtown airport. We thought, oh Crap, cause he went through first this is it, we got caught for our dumb crap in the Co, and were all getting nailed. Turns out it was just the tickets he didn't pay before he left, and he had a warrant. So he said the Customs agents were just huge pricks the entire time, finally they gave him one phone call so he phoned his mom explained what hapened and she said.. “You’re movin’ with your auntie and uncle in Bel-Air.” So he whistled for a cab and when it came near The license plate said fresh and it had dice in the mirror. If anything he could say that the cab was rare, but he thought, “Nah, forget it. Yo, holmes to Bel-Air!” He pulled up to the house about 7 or 8 and he yelled to the cabbie, “Yo holmes smell ya later!” Looked at his kingdom he was finally there, to sit on his throne as the prince of Bel-Air.

Such a thread derail.
Funny, you hit it off with someone because of a common interest. In this case because we both loved animals, just to different extents. Silly me thinking it meant having an annual pass to the zoo and having pets around the house, rather than just having one...

It's ruff, that's for sure.
Honest, I was pretty much anti-social for a good six months, and just felt gross inside.

It's probably better, no amount of alcohol has helped me. Still feel guilty for not getting him arrested for it, but now he is pet-free, thank gawd.
If it had happened nowadays, knowing the crew on here as well I as I do now, I'd let CP have at him (or at least let hockeycop know, haha)

Well, I get anxious going through customs sometimes. Everyone does. It's a normal reaction. If you had outstanding arrest warrants, that's just ridiculous. You could really screw up your life for something that takes very little to fix.
Maybe you get stuck in Mexico, maybe you get detained and arrested by customs in Calgary, maybe you get put in jail and miss work. Maybe you lose your job. Maybe you miss payments, get in debt, lose your house, etc. Something like that snowballs fast for what is a easy fine payment - or just don't go to Mexico and live with transit tickets dogging you for years.
