NHL GMs clearly think Connelly is a better prospect at this point than Baertschi. Or do you not believe that a 2nd was by far the best offer on the table for Treliving?

Actually Yzerman took advantage of a GM whose job was on the line. Treliving should have been doing the same.

Brett Connolly has scored 12 goals in the NHL this year, and leads his AHL team in scoring by a 9-point margin.
Is Baertschi's value on the same level as Connolly? Please explain why you think so.

He can't and won't.
I asked him to set out his reasons the trade was bad.
He hasn't and can't.

Connolly has marginally better stats in the AHL whereas Baertschi's stats in the NHL are a lot better than Connolly's despite playing with slugs and in limited minutes.

Thing is, there has to be a demand for what you're selling. I don't think Treliving wanted to do anyone any favours, he called around and took the best deal possible. For all we know, the canucks offered a second and the next best offer was a 5th. The Flames did well by getting rid of a player that showed he isn't really at the NHL level and got a 2nd round pick in the process. The nucks gave a second round pick for a player that couldn't cut it on a rebuilding team. For all we know, Benning has done a terrible job.

They assigned him to Utica.
I'm sure he gets up at some point if a hole opens up though.

It said many pages ago (yeah I don't blame you for not going back) that he was being sent to the AHL, he is an AHL player after all.

Bob doesnt seem to have this problem with all the other flames prospects. He also didnt have this problem in Colorado when he had soft small skill prospects like Tanguay and Hejduk. Not did he have this problem with Marc Savard in Atlanta and this was all when he was an even harder was to deal with apparently.
May be the only person to blame here is Sven.

Sven's father enjoyed running to the Swiss tabloids to tell the world how his son deserved everything on a silver platter. One has to believe that the same messages were being planted in Sven's ear too. Having such negative influences around doesn't help Baertschi, and likely helped undermine the Flames' attempts at working wtih him.
We'll see if Vancouver can manage the issue of dad's ego better than we could. Vancouver apparently had the same issue with Cody Hodgson, and that didn't end well for them either.

I'd hate it if my dad told me I was awesome and wanted the best for me. That would be awful.

Being encouraging about ability is different then installing a sense of entitlement because of your abilities!

No, but if your dad was telling you you deserved something you hadn't earned yet and it caused you to be less receptive to what is required to earn it, he's not helping you out in the long run.

I also think he sees time down the stretch, but you would think with all their injuries that hole would be there right now. I wonder if they think he is too fragile to throw in right away.

Frankly, I don't think Sven's dad was just making this stuff up on his own. He got it from talking to Sven. I'm sure Sven would have rather his dad didn't talk to the press like that, but I think what his dad said was what Sven was thinking as well.
Darthma, it may be great if your dad thinks you are awesome but it's not awesome for your dad to criticize your boss in public.
