I don't think you can say a movie is bad just because it does not line up with the story you have made up in your head.
It doesn't align with their own story, let alone any story that fans have in their heads. Its a bad movie.

So some people were asking about the rise of the first order, and after finishing the Aftermath books and some other sources, I think that we can put together a pretty good picture.
Spoiler!
Before the fall of the Empire, Palpatine recruits a young Gallius Rax a orphan on Jakku, he sets him to work building what is called an observatory on Jakku. There are other Observatories throughout the Empire all examining different areas of Wild Space. Jakku's observatory is different though.
Gallius Rax completes the Jakuu observatory, Palpatine briefs him on the Contingency. Palpatine felt that if the Empire let him fall that the Empire was not worth saving.
Palpatine dies the Contingency goes into effect. The Empire begins to destroy itself under Operation Cinder, Naboo and Vardos are basically wrecked. At the same time Rax assassinates several high ranking Imperials, he also sets up various Imperial remnants for defeat.
Mas Ammenda the head of what's left of the Empire on Coruscant is placed under house arrest after he tries to negotiate a conditional surrender with the New Republic which is rejected.
Grand Admiral Rae Sloane breaks with Gallius Rax after Rax uses former Rebel Prisoners with control chips in their head to attempt to assassinate the New Republic Government. Sloane feels that it was dishonerable and decides that Rax has betrayed the ideals of the empire.
Rax gathers the rest of the Imperial Fleet on Jakku. However the Soliders and officers in this fleet and the ground forces are not the best of the best. Rax also reveals the use of child soldiers trained by Hux's father are the future of the empire.
The Republic gets approval to engage and destroy the Imperial remnant at Jakku. The Empire's fleet is lead by the Super Star Destroyer Ravager the last surviving SSD.
Rae Sloane arrives on Jakku in pursuit of Rax.
A massive battle breaks out that is devastating to both sides. We find out that the observatories have one purposes. One is to map Wild Space on the Outer Rim. the one on Jakku has a second purpose. They have bored to the planet Core, and Rax has dumped some powerful Dark Side artifacts into the center of the world. The Planet will destroy itself and not only take out the remaining Imperial Remnant. But destroy the Republic Fleet and make the establishment of a government nearly impossible.
Sloane kills Rax and prevents the destruction of Jakku, however both sides are devastated including the loss of the Ravanger.
Rax gives Sloane the Imperialis a ship built by Palpatine, it has downloaded the navigation information from the observatories, it carries Sloane, Hux and his father and the psycho children. It heads into Wild Space.
The Empire unconditionally surrenders to the New Republic.
Sloane heads into Wildspace and meditates on the failure of the Empire. The Imperialis sends out signals to loyal Imperials worth saving with the coordinates to Wild Space.
Sloane arrives at the rendezvous and meets the Emperor's personal SSD the Eclipse. The name First Order, comes from her first order to rebuild a better Empire then the one that died.
The New Republic allows Old Imperial Worlds to join their government, this creates a senate that is rife with mistrust and an inability to get things done.
The New Order begins to seize worlds in the Outer rim, for the most part Worlds that distrust or haven't been helped by the core Focused Republic.
The New Order begins to use the resurgent Crime Syndicates to raise money in great quality. They begin to re-arm and continue to take worlds. The New Republic doesn't see them as a threat. The Core Republic Worlds start to fracture.
At some point we have to assume that Rae dies as dose Hux's father. Leadership is taken over by Snoke, Phasma and Hux.
The Republic still looks at the growing First Order as weak and an outer rim thing. They refuse to go to war with them. Leia splits off the Resistance.
Crime and Corruption continue to rise in the core, there are also some fundamental disagreements between the Former Imperial Core Worlds and the Republic. The former Imperial Worlds secede and join the First Order giving the First order most of Wild Space, most of the Outer Rim and a chunk of the Core Worlds.
Ben Skywalker destroys the Jedi Academy and joins the First Order. Luke vanishes.
The First Order destroys the seat of the Republic and its fleet.

I'm surprised they didn't off the Princess Leia character in this movie.
I'm pretty sure that some representative has stated that they wouldn't carry on using a digital recreation of Leia so how are they going to tie up the lose ends in the next movie?
They had ample and easy opportunities to exit the Leia character in The Last Jedi and I'm curious why they didn't take them.

It seems like they filmed important scenes that include her in Episode 9 that were too hard to get around, otherwise it makes little sense considering how unimportant her role was in this movie.
They'll have her either die between movies, or leave due to the death of her brother. She really didn't have a big role in either films.
The opening crawl could be
Star Wars Episode IX
Again with the return of the Jedi
With the resistance devastated by the sinister First Order and leaderless after the death of Princess Leia, This band of rebels flees across the galaxy in the hope of buying time for the Resistance's new mega Weapon . . . The Rey err Gun.
It is hoped that The Rey will bring peace and hope to the galaxy.
Meanwhile R2D2's batteries ran out, Chewbacca's dead as well, C3PO ran off to the Vegas System to marry the Stripper Droid 3000, and Poe has been left to answer the phones.

I believe it's out of respect, this is her last performance. I also believe the director has stated as much too.
Particularly the part about Poe. That guy deserved to be sucked out an air lock not admired by his commanding officers. The whole story with him as a mutineer sexist jerk deserved a much more poignant conclusion. Instead Disney pulled back and inexplicably gave him the hero treatment after he: destroyed the rebel bombing fleet, leaked the escape plans, mutinees against his officers.

They'll probably finish Leia off the same way they did Ackbar...heinously offscreen.
You would think with all the bad one liners in this, they would have at least thrown Ackbar a final "it's a trap!" bone.
They name the race of a creature that looks like squid, "mon calamari". The least they could have done was something like, "we're fried!" or a battle cry of "tzatziki!"
