Are these EPS and CPS officers, or is this shoveling more Sheriffs into our cities?

It sounds great because that sounds like it's going to be massive corporations and "they'll hardly notice". But in reality, most of the corporations are small businesses and "just taxing" us isn't unnoticed. It actually all comes from the same wallet!
For the record the NDP lowered the small business income tax rate to the current 2%.

I'm okay with more law enforcement and that might be the right move, but I think a bigger issue needs to be opening the can of worms that is detention / proper jail time for drug and low level offences. These are not people that should be instantly just released back onto the street and better incarceration and availability for drug rehabilitation services needs to be made available. Otherwise it's kind of a useless endless cycle.

If it was as simple as throwing more cops at the problem it never would have gotten this bad in the first place

I dunno about that. Increased presence and enforcement probably doesn't hurt at all and does reduce crime.

It still amazes me they closed the only downtown police station a few years ago.

It’s unfortunate that Alberta fiscal conservatism starts and stops with ‘low taxes’. The government can (usually does) piss away untold billions but nary a peep as long as royalties keep those taxes artificially low.

I seem to recall Ottawa having some difficulty protecting its citizens about a year ago and you complaining about other levels of government intervening.

It’s almost as if you’re a complete and total hypocrite.

Why do you keep doing this? Do you get such a boner from seeing a tweet in that little fartbox of an echochamber you call mom's basement that you become incapable of typing actual sentences while sharing?

It's is not plural. Their in this case. You might think it's spelt THEY'RE but you're wrong.

I’m not speaking on behalf of anyone else or defending what they are posting, at the same time I don’t see how your complaining about the comments are people making is providing any more positive of a contribution.

What we need from higher levels of government are laws and funding for treatment options. That's what the Cities need but don't have the power to introduce themselves. More cops doesn't help if the cops can't actually do anything

But the UCP knows that, they have no interest in solving anything, just perception and vote buying

I mean you have to work with the data that's available. Vagrancy and the like has gone up sure, but the things that matter most like Violent Crime can only be quantified with published police-reported numbers.

Legislating based off perception is bad governance.

Careful, reminding people of what they have said in the past can now be considered slander, you'll have approximately 30 days to recant your statement or provide a T4 and your grade 7 transcript to compare income and education!

When you weave in the policing discussion, the tax discussion gets extra funny.

The UCP reduces the amount of funding to cities like Calgary, which means they have to either increase taxes to make up the difference or reduce things like policing. This creates one of two problems, which the UCP then pretends to fix by temporarily knocking a few cents off a litre of gas and promising to hire more police officers.

The UCP is responsible for higher personal taxes and worse services, give half assed promises and gestures that don’t begin to fix the problem they created, and yet people still view them as the economic conservative/tough on crime type of party and rant about sole city councils and the high tax NDP. Hilarious.
