Looks like it's over in Victoria. NDP up by 821 with 205/256 reporting.
Really weird how it happened though. I'd love to see a list of the polling stations.

When you hear the the new liberal leadership comments about Alberta and pipelines I am really struck by how far they have moved to the left. If they are going to challenge the tories they really need to move back towards the centre to contest those tory votes. When you think about a guy like Paul Martin, a businessman in the liberal party, where are those people today?

I think that's why they are in the predicament they are in today. If people want a left wing government, they'll go for the real thing, the NDP, rather than the left wingers pretending to be centrists.

It would be interesting to see what would happen if we had automatic run-offs until someone got at least 50% of the vote.
Bottom first place vote getter drops off and those second choices get added.
In this case bottom three would not have mattered that much to the total, but if Turner was then next to drop off, how would those voter's second preference gone? I suspect Locke would have won under that format.

I am not sure that is true or why I would care that much about what the rest of the country supposedly thinks of Alberta.

Do you understand how parliamentarian of the year is awarded? She essentially was given an inflated ranking because there are no other Green MP's.
And after tonight there is still... one Green MP. The fact that they're gaining momentum is pretty alarming to me, further left vote-splitting. I almost wanted to see Locke win just to provide some optimism for Liberal supporters that they'll re-emerge at the federal level next time out but given the news cycle it would have also been a tacit endorsement (or at least a non-condemnation) of Trudeau/McGuinty which would not be an acceptable outcome.
I don't know anything about MHF, anyone have any comments on her besides what's on her website?

This a by-election, these are "fake" results. This was the only chance to shakeup the CPCs attitude in Calgary by electing a different MP but instead it will go back to being the same. No showing up to debates, only being in Calgary at all if they want to be.
Next general election Crockatt will win 50+% just like Richardson was always able to.
