Benning is trying to turn the Canucks into the 2011 Bruins

He'll be an RFA after making 3.5 next season. For a guy that doesn't put up much for points if he was indeed looking for a big raise it makes total sense from Florida's standpoint.

I don't understand this trade from the Canucks perspective.

Do they need a guy like Gudbranson? Definitely.

But giving up McCann and the 35th overall? Not exactly a rebuilding move.

Once again, the Canucks come across as rudderless - not really sure what it is they are trying to accomplish.

It is but it's not a move a bottom five team should be making.

33rd overall. Benning doesn't even give us playoff break from his stupidity.

Giving up McCann and a 2nd is too much. Especially when Gudbranson is a #5/6 on any decent team. Add on top of that, the fact that Vancouver doesn't have another pick until the early 4th round. I know this isn't supposed to be a deep draft, but still, not having anything aside #5 is ridiculous for a rebuilding team.

Think I heard on the Fan that technically, you can make a trade at anytime. It's just that any trade after the trade deadline can't play until next season for your team.

This is correct; no player involved in a post-deadline deal is playoff eligible. Technically, for example, the Blues and Sharks could trade draft picks with each other if they wanted.

I assumed you were referring to prospects. And all I see is Horvat, Cassels and a bunch of nothingness.

That's not true. Any players traded after the deadline can't play in the playoffs.

This pretty well ensures the Canucks pick up forward at number five.

the thought is they were trying to move him for awhile

all the promo and stuff for young guys really focused on Horvat, Virtanen, Hutton, Demko, and even Sven over McCann

Benning had said he thinks you need big centers to compete in the pac and a lot of people took that to mean he didn't think McCann could

On the other end of this deal, I honestly wonder where McCann plays on this team. Does he get moved to wing?

Barkov
Trocheck
Bjugstad
Bolland
McKenzie

I have a suspicion that Bolland gets moved in some sort of crap for crap deal in order to make room for McCann.

Benning is Nonis 2.0. A bottom-five team with six picks in the draft. Yeesh. You do not trade a second-rounder when you're this bad.

Trade for Markus Granlund. Yup, makes perfect sense.
