Without hearing the return, I'm going to assume "lol Canucks" is a valid response.
Yup!

I would guess this makes the chances of the Canucks drafting a D at #5 less likely. And in turn less likely that one of Dubois or Tkachuk falls to us.
I'm happy with Nylander anyway.

I don't know, Florida fans seem disappointed and so do the canucks, which suggests a fair trade to me.
Florida fans should re-evaluate. They get a good young prospect and a 33rd overall pick in exchange for a middling defenseman who probably never gets much beyond "solid, reliable top 4".
Meanwhile, what the hell does this do to help Vancouver rebuild? Sure, they pick 5th overall... and then have no picks until #93.
Jim Benning is a moron, film at 11.

I think this move all but solidifies the Canucks taking whoever of Tkachuk or Dubios is available

Really? At this point do you really think there isn't a solid possibility that Benning finds a way to screw up and draft someone ridiculous?

Tell us about this Gudbranson kid, Cali Panthers Fan.
One of the better physical defensemen in the league. He's a stalwart in his own zone, and is a really strong battler for the puck. He does struggle at times moving the puck up the ice, but makes reliable zone clears. He's decently fast and mobile, but doesn't have a quick first step. Great penalty killer. Great 3rd pairing defenseman, adequate 2nd pairing defenseman, who can step up to bigger minutes when needed. Limited offensive ability, but makes the smart and simple plays. He does have a big shot, but doesn't have a lot of ability to get it off clean or through screens.
There's a lot to like about Gudbranson, but he's never lived up to his draft status for me. The league has changed quite a bit since he was drafted in terms of what defensemen are highly esteemed. I think he'd probably go in the mid to late first round if he were drafted today, not 3rd overall.
But all the analysis aside, I loved him simply because he can do things like this:
and this:
and this:
Basically, he's a much better version of Deryk Engelland. He's a pain in the ass to play against, but he won't make the Canucks that much better.
A little torn. I like him a lot, but I understand he was looking for a pretty big pay raise. He hasn't overwhelmed me in the past, but he is valuable. If management felt he wasn't helping the team enough, I can understand their reluctance to sign him long-term, and then get some quality assets back in return in McCann and a 2nd rounder (4th for a 5th is pretty much a wash). I think it's a smart trade for an internal budget team, and the Panthers also have Mike Matheson ready to take on a top 4 role next season. McCann has 2 more years on his ELC. It's smart management as far as I'm concerned.
Ekblad-Kulikov
Petrovic-Matheson
Kampfer/Kindl
That d-group lacks experience, but there's a lot of quality there.

I see the Panthers new front office decided to turn the difficulty sliders all the way down to easy for their first big move.

The Canucks just pulled off the worst trade of the offseason and it's not even the offseason yet.
Twitter is fun at times like this.
