Her avatar is unprofessional. You are spewing bs about standards and have no clue what you are talking about. Please stop because as a women, your comments are more offensive then the situation at hand.

You're blaming her for his actions. Listen, I'm not saying anything about her photo being professional or unprofessional. The fact is, she should be able to have whatever she'd like as her profile photo and not have people act like that toward her.

The woman in question is not a professional reporter, she's a student at SAIT and, according to her Facebook profile, she works at Mark's Work Wearhouse.

She's a private citizen who tweets about hockey.

Not that that changes anything at all about Dater's creepy actions and her right to not be harassed regardless of how she chooses to present herself.

Haha, yup. Same thing as sexual assault. You have gone full rube cube on this one.

Really?

So if I go into work as an Executive Professional in Batman pajama's should I be treated as a professional in my field as well?

What if I decide one day I want to show up in ripped jeans and a hoodie for a Board meeting? Is that professional and can I stand there demanding to be treated professionally like the others wearing proper business attire?

Your appearance, especially in media, is a huge part of the job. I'm not saying she should cover up, but she could have made better choices in her photo's and made herself come across as a professional, not a girl using her "assets" to gain attention.

I can appreciate your background in the field, but I'm not sure what exactly are offensive about my comments. The matter of her avatar being professional or unprofessional is really irrelevant to the conversation and I kind of regret even focusing on it. You don't get to harass people on social media just because you think their profile pic is hot.

I think we're agreeing on the general lack of professionalism in her photo; I'm not disagreeing there at all. I suppose I'm taking issue with the idea that this woman (whoever it is, and however poor her decision may have been here) is being blamed for someone else's poor behavior.

Common sense says that her avatar was going to attract lewd comments. Weather I think it's provocative or not isn't the issue, it's the creeps who respond with the comments. You can be proactive and think about the possible situations you might have to deal with.

Sounds like she's just a twitterer that likes hockey. Does she have a blog or something?

as far as I can tell she isn't a professional reporter.

from her blog it sounds like she wants to be one (going to radio school):

I've recently gotten the amazing chance to pursue my dreams. I decided to go to Radio school and chase the idea of having a voice in the sports community. Now, I always understood that it was a pretty tall task. It's a hard industry to get into and there ratio of men to women is not even close. However, I always believed in my skills, in my potential, in my work ethic and I knew that if I went to school I could be successful in the industry.

During the summer, just before classes started, I got engaged to my fantastic boyfriend and I honestly thought that my life couldn't possibly get any better. I wasn't expecting what was coming for me. When I started school I was in the perfect place in my life and everything changed. First of all, the moment people found out that I was engaged, everyone changed. Guys stopped talking to me as much, they weren't interested in my opinions or anything about me. It was odd, I really have been used to attention always, but hey it is what it is. Then things got worse. I was shut down of different projects because "women can't possibly love and know as much about sports as guys" or "advanced statistics aren't that important, I know hockey." After that conversation, I never got a chance. I never got to be part of the learning opportunity they all get to be a part of. I didn't get a chance to share what I know and love, because I have a vagina. Not just a vagina, but one that they can't have.

It's not about blame, it's about thinking ahead and being proactive. You can't change the fact there are creeps in the world but you can do things to avoid them.

Don't get on Twitter much, do you? Women get harassed constantly, regardless of what their profile pic is.
