This would be amazing if this was secretly Michael Ha trying to extract his revenge.

I dunno... I think sometimes people are looking for a target to pile on.

Someone makes a thread saying that they are an athlete with their eye on a goal and need help reaching that goal. Maybe it's just me and looking at the incredible thing that she wants to try, but I don't have a problem with this thread. She doesn't make money off this venture. She's not selling anything.

I would have voted for her, but (a) I voted for the YOW girl since that's where I live and (b) she's lost even more weight than I have, which always impresses the hell out of me.

There's being proud and then there's being egocentric

If you started a CP Jihad to support a cause of yours, would she be there for you?

This is really getting pretty funny.

Some person starts a thread in an appropriate off-topic forum, that you can elect to read or not, posts a link that you can elect to click on or not. And that is pretty much the extent of it. It's pretty unintrusive, if you ask me. If the CP mods thought it was spammy, don't you think they would have deleted the thread and banned the person?

It wasn't somebody knocking on your door or calling your phone in the middle of dinner or otherwise disturbing you in your pursuit of life, liberty, and happiness.

Do you answer the door when boy scouts come along for a bottle drive and get similarly bent out of shape?

I can imagine you ripping in to some poor boy scout, "why do you need these bottles? I never got to go on any field trips. Can I just come to your house and ask for your empties?? Is this all our relationship is? What do you do for our community?"

^^^ You're missing the important part of even your argument.

The Boy Scouts have a good reputation. Even if we have never met the specific scout, when he comes calling for bottles we try and help out because we KNOW him, or rather the organization he is with.

With the opening post here, it really seems like spam for this supplement company. Because we don't know the person it's easy and fair to assume the worst. If she had two dozen posts to her name, we'd know it's not just spam. If she had contributed to the community, many would feel more inclined to help her out.

As I mentioned in my first post, there have been some exceptions to this rule. People have shown up with info and asking for support on some very important things (like cancer charities) and people have answered the call.

The thing is, even they stick around to comment and post and generally work it to get what they are asking for. In this case, that's strike three. She hasn't even come to explain herself or work for support.

In the worst cases scenario, it's spam to drive traffic for the sponsor (which I believe it is). At best case, it's still a self aggrandizing person promoting themselves when they have done nothing for the community, and won't even stick around to explain.

This thread should really be closed.

As for the second part of your argument, the mods don't judge every thread or every post. They get to them when they can, but it's a huge community with many treads and many interests. It's not unusual that a mod wouldn't step in. They might not even have seen it. Even they themselves have said on multiple occasions to bring problems to them. Because A, they can't be everywhere at once, and B, they don't want to act without the voice of the community unless it's a big time offense. They're not dictators.

But for the reasons above, I do think the thread should be closed. On the surface it looks scammy and sleazy. And like I said, I could be wrong, but that's the whole point of being known first, joining the community first. So you don't look scammy in these situations.

The unwritten rule is as much for the benefit of the new posters as it is for the community.

If it's legit, she's welcome to come back and explain and/or make contributions to further her cause.

Until then I would suggest we all boycott Genuine Health.

I would boycott it just because they sell overpriced generalized "supplements" mostly based on junk science.

The boy scouts aren't asking me to vote against other boy scours either in that scenario. And if they were I'd end up voting for the group that my kid was on or one of my buddies kids.

Maybe not, but they are asking you to give them your bottles and not give them to another scout troop or another worthy group also needing funding.

It doesn't upset me...it just makes it easier to identify the knuckle-dragging ####s on the forum that generally have nothing to add to the discussion.

Well none of that matters since the elderly Chinese couple come once a week and steal them anyways.

Speaking of not adding anything to the discussion, pretty much all I ever see you post is some replica of the above "I ain't mad, just helps me identify the a-holes".

I voted for Heather Gardner because she is very pretty. Sometimes it is harder for attractive people to win these things because others feel they get things handed to them based on their looks! Wait a second..

It takes a special kind of person to walk through the CP lake of fire using their real name and emerge unscathed on the other side.

Because she was just looking to get some votes and not contribute to the forum, right?
