Are you aware that all the players eligible had finished their seasons, by the mini combine?

Their lists were completed after their post season scouting meetings....with maybe a few interviews or special testing to do with players.

Piss poor strategy? How else would you do it?

I think these new additions may stoke the fire in Svens belly a little. If Monahan does make the team they may feed off of each others desire to be impact players.

Todd Button has his scouting staff has been watching these guys for well over a year now. They've meet with various players at various times throughout the year.

The NHL had it's combine, they meet some there
After that they narrowed in on a few guys they really liked and had their own combine and did more homework.

Can't see how that's being spun as a negative.

I doubt that Shinkaruk didn't have the piss scouted out of him by the flames. The only reason I was sold on him was because of Lubo yammering on about him.....but Lubo blows smoke up every WHL kids but. It didn't help with all the hype about him being the "highest ranked Calgary kid" either. I think the proof in the pudding was detroit and washington passing on him before and after calgary. I'd wait to pass judgement since we will have all the time in the world to see if feaster made the right choice.

RE : the stiched jersey's, I think its a nice touch, even if they made 28 of them. Its a drop in the bucket, but really helps re-sign players (esp after the Erixon fiasco). Nice touch.

Also, anyone got a link about the top 13 thing?

How does this thinking solve the "The thing with the Flames is their always good, but not good enough to make the playoffs, yet not bad enough to get a high draft pick" problem?......

For some reason I remember Erixon had a stitched jersey on draft day

Did they just invite 4? If so, that seems like a poor strategy as far as giving your position away.

But there's nothing wrong with zoning in on targeted players. For most intents and purposes, the scouting work is finished after the Memorial Cup ends. Some teams might have already made up their mind after the WJC. It's just about putting together and finalizing the list.
