Don't think it's a bad trade, don't think it's a great trade, team got more draft picks, which means better odds at getting their next franchise player...I would of preferred the 2024 pick, but in reality this rebuild is going to take easily 5-7 years... looking forward to a young hungry team, looking to prove themselves... looking to earn that next big contract....that and the new arena....exciting time to be a flames fan

Because they were the most boring team to watch in league history and almost destroyed hockey. We would all be stupid too watching that product as we slowly fell into a stupor.

I agree, but you are also risking that Calgary could flip him to a team who might make the playoffs. My point is that you are losing control of that particular situation. The difference between a 3rd and 4th isn't that great but it's still something.

Is Bahl's goal song for the Flames destined to be "Great Balls of Fire"?

Who got fired by the Oilers.

Or he’s Edmonton’s podiatrist.

Oh. Well just saw this after wrestling with irrigation all afternoon and trying to avoid news of the Team Of Destiny.

More wine please.

Call again in 2027.

Or the theme from Home Alone after Catherine O'Hara screams "KEVIN!!"

Agreed, so long as the return is solid because as mentioned, this past season Kadri was outstanding.

I still think this contract will not age well.

Colorado has a bunch of cap now that Nichushkin is off into the wonderful wide world of rehab.

Doesn't Nichushkin still count against their cap?

If Markstrom plays awful for 2 seasons, flames could get a top pick in 2026.... cheering against Vegas and New Jersey could help us stay checked-in through the grind of a Flames rebuild.

Conroy has done a better job recuperating assets for this Team in year 1, than any Flames gm, period.

LTIR and I think he's suspended indefinitely without pay because he breached the player assistance program rules .

So I think the AVS get a pass on the cap hit.

What a miss by Treliving. Markstrom would be a great pick up for Toronto.
Ottawa was also rumoured in on it and couldn’t beat devils offer. I think we got as good as they could get back. Would be interested to hear if they picked bahl instead of holtz. Granted I’m not a huge holtz fan, so I don’t think we missed out on much.

Solid trade, another 1st is huge. Seems to lack a sweetener for the retention but other than that, I like it

I just went back. I thought Markstrom no retention was worth a 3rd. Markstrom at 50% was worth #10 overall.

So we got a 2nd round prospect. A 1st for 31% retention.

Seems like a win for me. We don’t know his condition either. He was getting hurt last year.

Keeping Marky would have led us to a number of pointless wins. Moving on from him was the right call because we not only got fair value, but it increases of our odds of better draft position.

I’d guess the sweetener was the pick upgraded to a 1st. Without the retention, Markstrom wasn’t returning a 1st.
