If this trade happened after that Oilers series we'd all have been over the moon.

Let's be honest he was awful pretty much every other year and hasn't shown he can be consistent even last year.

People's expectations were out of whack if they thought return would be better than this.

Surprised capfriendly doesn’t say the pick goes to the Capitals.

How does Toronto not beat this package- lol

What a miss by Treliving. Markstrom would be a great pick up for Toronto.

I doubt if they were offering a 2024 1st and they have almost nothing after that. Cowan is about it.

You'd want to manage that yourself, I would imagine.

Trading him to Calgary would guarantee the condition would not be met.

Markstrom would have to want to go there. Who knows if he did.

Markstrom for Marner would've been good.

Article is behind a paywall but it does claim Markstrom was willing to waive for Toronto.

I actually like this trade. With the exception of mentoring Wolf, Markstrom essentially had zero value to the organization. He is getting older, and all he will do is elevate this team up a couple of spots in the standings. When this team is ready to compete again, Markstrom will be some goalie coach somewhere.

I think the price was probably elevated. If Conroy could have secured this deal at the deadline, he probably would have. I think there were peanuts being thrown by Fitzgerald trying to grab Markstrom for basically nothing. Other teams kicked tires, drove up the price, and the trade happened.

Another bullet in the chamber, another good-sized player for this monster team to come together down the road, and dgib can keep crying in the corner because Markstrom probably had sex with his mom or something, and he was peaking through the window, which is why he is obsessed with Markstrom everywhere even though he has only become a Devil today.

I think it is a win+win=lose type of trade. Calgary wins because they obtained more bullets in the chamber for a guy they needed to unload since he didn't fit with the team now, and would be too old when they would need him. Devils win because they now get a decent stop-gap that will help their team not be terrible, and Fitz can hopefully keep his job (win for the rest of the league as he seems fairly incompetent), but Dgig will be rocking in a corner peeing his pants whenever Markstrom is the confirmed starter for his team.

I love the story flip from dgibbs with his previous posts saying Markstrom isn’t even worth a first. With how hard numb nuts here was dogging on Marky you’d think he’s a bottom 10 goalie and going to sink their season.

What he’s overseeing is that this has the potential to be 11th overall next year or top 10 in 2026, either of which are significantly more than Schneiders return lol.

Brad can call and inquire, but I promise he never stood a chance.
Jacob was going to 1 team only, his minds been made up for months.

Return is okay. I knew Jersey had no interest in trading the 2024 1st for Markstrom. The Flames get some future pieces, and hopefully, their 2025 pick is high. All these trades are nice but they still need stars and a few top 5 picks hopefully lands them that. Hopefully all these other pieces they are acquiring will turn into good depth.

This is exactly the value we should have expected. Not over the moon value, but we got a lot more than we would have a year ago.

If people are disappointed in the return, it is only because some people on this site were hyping up a huge return. We were told that a huge package was going to be coming back at the deadline. And it didn't.

Jersey’s 1st will likely be better than Toronto’s, so in that sense Tre was at a disadvantage from the start. But yeah regardless it always seemed they were the front runners.

Watching some videos. Bahl looks like a younger version of Big Z. Could be fun.

They are going to have $15-18 million in cap space as well. You can do some damage with that.
