You've done no research. get out of here with that bull####. This is unlike anything any of us have seen. All the experts agree on that - this is not SARS, or swine flu. Also, The young are actually virtually completely unaffected - the one silver lining here. It is the ripple affect of having a disease that is at least as contagious as the flu but possibly 40x more deadly spreading throughout the globe that the rest of us should be afraid of. I hope you, or someone you love doesn't need to use the healthcare system over the coming months, because there is a high likelihood that it will collapse if we don't take extreme measures now.

The thing with this is that without an actual cure we still don't know if this is a long term solution.
China's cases have slowed and are starting to decline, but it will take a long time before it reaches zero.
And the second you start to reduce the social distancing measures the risk becomes that we you just end up right back at square one.
This is the risk for sports and large events. You can close down for 30 days, but all it takes is a couple people at a large event in June/July to not realize they've contracted it, and then you're right back where you are right now.

There won't be a cure, likely a vaccine will come. The long term solution is that enough people get the virus and recover that we gain herd immunity - however, there are some scientists who believe this could be yearly - think cold, flu and coronavirus season. We will develop some natural immunity over time, and a vaccine will likely be available in at least a year... but yeah, this is unprecedented and completely new territory.

Wait, people are still saying "it's just the flu, just wash your hands it'll be fine". Still? Even now?

Wash your hands and listen to health professionals and you're basically immune.

There's not enough data to determine if contracting and recovering from COVID-19 makes you less susceptible to further infection. This virus could be a merry-go-round

Yeah, I think part of that is people are afraid and don't want to face reality - another part is they haven't done research and are being ignorant and grossly irresponsible by spreading their uninformed opinions.

This whole thing might just "disappear" before you get halfway through that apple, my friend.
If you're young and strong, you should basically just keep givin 'er 110%.
(apple green text implied)

You actually have to dehydrate the apple, grind it up into a powder and snort it. Or have someone blow the apple dust up your butt with a straw. A plastic straw, not a hippie straw.

PHOENIX, Ariz. — NHL commissioner Gary Bettman reached out to clubs Thursday morning to tell them the regular season would be suspended due to the spread of the coronavirus, a source indicated to The Post. There was a call scheduled for 1 p.m. to work out some of the details on what is a very fluid situation.
The league had already cancelled morning skates and practices Thursday morning, and they told teams to start working with their buildings to find dates to host games into July. An official announcement was expected later Thursday afternoon.

Edit: I may have misunderstood - were you saying the deaths overall will be less if you go into lockdown (true) or the death rate would go down (not true).?
Second edit: I have been doing some more reading and apparently I am actually wrong here, and it makes complete sense why. My apologies to Kovaz. If you go into lockdown and the system does not get overwhelmed you are far more likely to survive, so this does in fact affect the death rate.
|
Yep, nailed it with the second edit. It's the 10-20% of people that need hospital care that are most important here - they'll pretty much all recover if there's a bed + whatever other equipment there for them, but if there's no capacity to treat them a lot of them will die. It's all about "flattening the curve" so we're not all sick at the same time.
