Paul Byron is only 153 lbs, So I don't think Johnny needs to reach 180. I wouldn't mind if Johnny didn't add any weight, he already knows how to avoid the big guys.

Finished the Czech USA game on PVR. J Hockey was dangerous all game. Drew a sick penalty, made a few toe drags and threaded some great passes. I was convinced he was going to set up the tying goal in the last minute but the Czech players were just crowding up the front of the net.
Gotta give a lot of credit to Salak. Stood on his head through the entire 3rd period.

I don't wanna see Johnny gain any significant weight. He might lose his elusiveness and what makes him great. Just let him be. Let's not reinvent the wheel.

I think Johnny is 150 lbs right now, max.
He doesn't need to gain 30 pounds in order to be effective. He's a finesse player.
Johnny will naturally fill out more and more every year into his late 20's.
The trainers should focus on strength and fast twitching muscle work. The size will come naturally.

When you are short and don't have leverage of taller players you need to depend on core strength to win puck battles. Building up his legs shouldn't have much bearing on his elusiveness as nobody is saying he needs to go Pat Verbeek. A lot depends on his frame as well and how much it can carry before it becomes a detriment to quickness and flexibility.

Balance when you got someone right on top of you is part of that elusiveness, that requires a lot of lower leg strength. Your right that he doesn't need to add 20 pounds, but he does need to add strength and exposiveness to his legs. Weight gain will be a by product of that.

^ 5'8, 170 lbs should be the max for Johnny.

Obviously I've never had a focused, intense work out regimen specifically tailored to me by some of the best trainers in the world, but I still think there is only so much that can do. Yeah he will get stronger but by how much?
If he has the same body type/metabolism/whatever as me then I worry how much he would have to force himself to eat to offset the calories that he would burn on a daily basis as a world class athlete and then gain weight on top of it. You can always eat less, but you can't really eat more than your body lets you...

At the risk of turning this into a MISC BRO down, everyone gains weight differently, you just need to figure out what your triggers are.
That is what the Flames nutritional staff is for.. JG could easily put on ten pounds over the summer and turn even more than that of his current weight into muscle. We don't want a beach body here, we want added strength that he can use when guys like Chara try to lean into him. First they have to catch him, but at some point someone will, and if he has that added strength training it would be a difference maker.
Take him up to the Nordic Center for the summer, let him work out in their weight room and free range for food in the forest. After a summer of olympic style lifting in the rustic 80's era training set up, with the mountains as his back drop and feasting on wild Elk... he will emerge a new man by training camp.
Just make sure he has a pair of flip flops, a North Face down coat and not a shaving or showering kit within fifty yards as he enters Canmore..

Years ago there was a joke floating that NHL was going to implement minimum height requirement. So, Flames were going to stretch Fleury over the summer so he could continue to play.

Not WC but still Johnny related:
“@chrismpeters: USA Hockey announces annual award winners: Johnny Gaudreau - College POY; Tucker Poolman - Junior POY; Hilary Knight - Women's POY.”

So did that list the top 3 USA players include an asterisk * best players not named Gaudreau because it is too obvious?

Man, he looks 5' 7" at the most. Hard to tell when he's playing with some pretty big guys but I don't see how he can be listed at 5' 9" anywhere.
Also, I feel like we are talking about an animal here with the height and weight talk and how we need to fatten him up. Little weird. Everybody finds their level. JG will as well.

I just hope he takes Cammalleris advice from the exit interview: be as fit as you can within your own body. Coming back 30 lbs heavier and trying to be a different player wont help him.

No, they didn't. They're just using the measurements Boston College and the NCAA took back in the fall.
