A top-4 RD in his prime at $4.5 million (Rasmus) I feel like they would need to add a 1st or something to Iginla personally. Isn't it usually a 1st rounder and blue chip prospect for these kinds of players.
Name a "blue chip" prospect that has been moved for a rental? Plus a 1st round pick?

I guess the definition of "blue chip" can differ.
Well that's where the problem is - Flames shouldn't be waiting until Andersson is a rental to move him if they want to get their best value for him.
If they think re-signing him is going to be tough / he's not open to re-signing then he should be moved before this trade deadline.
Gives the acquiring team at least two playoff runs with him, and generally a better opportunity to extend him. Doesn't mean you're getting a recent top 10 pick...but gives you a much better chance at a blue chip prospect / maximizing value.

Typically only happens when the traded player is going to resign with the club that trades for him. Mark Stone comes to mind... he returned Eric Branstrom, who at the time was one of the best defensive prospects in the NHL. Seemed like a huge return for a rental, even one who would extend with the receiving club.
I can't see Andersson being traded this year, with the way that he's playing and how he's embraced his leadership responsibility. He's also having fun playing hockey, which is a big part of the culture that Conroy and Huska are working to instill in the younger players.
He's here long term unless the Flames fall off a cliff this year or next year he says he doesn't want to re-sign.
That's been Conroy's pattern with the core veterans. It's up to them on whether they get moved.
Yeah, unless it is a massive haul that spoils the Flames with riches, I don't see the hurry to trade Andersson who still has another year with a reasonable cap hit. Conroy can definitely be patient here.
Maybe not a popular opinion, but I wouldn't be against just keeping him and extending him next summer if he is willing to stay. The Flames senior leadership group isn't getting younger and Andersson could provide some leadership continuity as the older guys age out of the league. Obviously Andersson's willingness to stay, contract term, and cap hit all play into it too. I'm just saying he isn't a player that needs to be traded at all costs and could be part of the long term solution still.

He's not UFA until 2026. A team chasing the cup has two full runs to add a potential Norris D at 4.5 mill. I think it looks pretty enticing depending on how hard other teams ownership groups has the GM in a vice to win. Wouldn't be hard to move him at all if teams are in the hunt after US Thanksgiving.

Utah's plan for 2 of their top 4 D men out for months is internal for now but will probably turn to trade if losses mount up
one d-man Armstrong has checked on is Provorov - Blue Jackets not ready to move him yet
Utah prefers finding a rental like Provorov because the injured players are expected to come back at some point this season
Montreal is doing due diligence looking to shake up team
Difficult to do trades this early in the season
Habs won't mortgage the future
Habs are at cap so must be equal $ in and $ out

Dach to the Flames wouldnt be a terrible gamble to make imo
If the price is low, Dach doesn't exactly inspire confidence at this point and Montreal has him playing on the wing

Consistently bad underlaying numbers.
Made of glass / always hurt.
Proven himself not capable of playing C at the NHL level.
Won't come cheap solely due to the acquisition cost the Habs paid to acquire him.

They have larkin, copp, compher and now Kasper up the middle. They also have youngish centers like Rasmussen and Veleno. Then they also have Danielson
They could use another top 4 RD. They could use a younger goalie with some upside.
I wouldn't mind Danielson as a key piece in an Andersson trade.
Rasmussen or Veleno might also be a good buy cheap option.

Danielson would be a dream. Loved him in his draft year

Dach is overrated IMO. He's a former top 3 pick, young, and is big, but he doesn't play big, injury prone, and his skating is average at best. I hope we stay away.

Agreed. My top targets in the league for young prospects in an Andersson trade would be Iginla, Danielson, Ritchie and Helenius. Of course, there are other top centre prospects that are better than some of those players (Catton for example)… I just hope one of these four players could potentially be available because their teams will have some level of desperation. I think Utah, Detroit and Buffalo are “desperate” to make the playoffs. And I think Colorado is in the phase of doing anything necessary to keep winning cups in their window. Seattle (who has Catton) on the other hand is not as desperate IMO.
In some ways, these other teams need help now more than they need help 2-3 years from now when those prospects could become impact players in the NHL. Highly doubtful these prospects will be available though. They are such valuable prospects that it’s probably a non-starter - even in an Andersson trade.

Not that I want to see Andersson traded, but getting Tij under any circumstance would be amazing. I just can't see Utah trading him though. Looking at the way they were promoting him after the draft, they seem to be grooming him as the future face of the franchise. I think they see a lot of marketability with him.

Yeah. It would be a dream scenario. That ownership couple seems to really value their image and marketability too which probably makes Tij even more of an untouchable.
