Hearing Friedman on the FAN this morning he seemed to think the Flames
Needed more grit and bite than anything else. Worries me they are looking at a guy like Zack Smith more than Hoffman.
This team needs goals more than anything.

Please dear god no. The last thing this team needs to do is take on another 3-4th line tweener with a terrible contract for the coaching staff to fall in love with without explanation.
TBH if Tre makes a move this off-base and boneheaded I will flip on him too. Along with signing Brouwer, this would be one of his worst deals. It would suck to have to get both a new coach and a new GM this off season, but maybe that will be more enticing to quenneville at least.

I’m fine with Smith if it means Brouwer is going the other way but thats about the only scenario

Ok, yes, this would be an acceptable swap, but why the hell would Ottawa say ok to that.

THIS team doesn’t need more grit it needs more scoring, whoever believes the flames need more grit is out to lunch. Will grit help the PP? Bennett is supposedly a gritty player, hasn’t done much to help him produce.

Monahan,Johnny,Backlund,Frolik,Dougie,Brodie,Kulak and Stone are all soft players, I think it would be wise if we moved on from a few via trade. Johnny and Dougie are off limits.

I can see Mike Stone as the centerpiece of a trade with Ottawa assuming he is close with his brother. Ottawa is going to be looking to retain Mark at all costs and adding a brother could help
Stone, Gillies, Kylington (Oduya is in Ottawa) for Hoffman?
Flames new lineup
Gaudreau-Monahan-Ferland
Tkachuk-Backlund-Hoffman
Bennett-Jankowski-Frolik
Hathaway-Stajan/Lazar-Brouwer
Gio-Hamilton
Brodie-Hamonic
Kulak-Andersson

Does anyone actually know if Hoffman can play the off-wing?
I see a lot of people penciling him in on the 2nd or even 1st RW spot but historically the guy is the LHS LW occupied by Tkachuk.
RW is clearly our position of weakness, if were giving up Brodie, Bennett+ I think we should target more than Hoffman honestly, not that there's anything actively available out there on the open market but LW just seems like our strongest position within the pipeline with J.G and M.T locking down the top 2 spots currently.

I know this has been brought up multiple times but I honestly believe the perfect player for this team is Wayne Simmonds.Gritty SOB that can score and play with skilled players. If you find a way to acquire him or sign him as a UFA after next season, you do it.
Gaudreau-Monahan-Simmonds
Tkachuk-Backlund-Frolik
Bennett-Jankowski-Ferland
Lazar-Stajan-Brouwer
Solid lineup, just need to get rid of that 4th line lol
Edit: The only thing going against Wayne is he is 29 right now.

There isn't? Because he would be 5th in goals and tied for 5th in points right now.

Cheaper buyout if they were looking at that and if not less total money on a shorter term.
The other issue is Brouwer is unlikely to waive his NTC for Ottawa.

Brouwer would cost $6M over 4 years to buyout, Smith would cost $6.5M over 6 years to buyout.

MOAR Grit...
gawd... i hope not....
goes to show you that not only is their PP languishing in the 80's, so is their coaching philosophy...
Calgary didn't only get the loser point the last 4 games because they were missing 'grit'...
unless 'grit' is now code for 'finish'...

William Karlsson is this year's example that, sometimes, a player just needs a different opportunity or a different coach.
I personally think that Gulutzan has done a terrible job with him, which has allowed him to fall back to some of the habits we saw earlier in the year.

when friedman was talking about grit, he meant mental grit, not physical
the team has too many boring sean monahans and not enough matthew tkachuks on the team

Friedman wasn't talking about grit (exactly). He was talking about players that hate to lose and he doesn't think there is enough of that on the Flames.
I agree with him 100%.
Monahan, Backlund, Brodie and Hamilton are all great players. I would be happy to add any o them to my team.
The problem with the Flames is that they have all 4. A 1st line C, a 2nd line C, a top pairing D, and a 2nd pairing D. They also have Gaudreau of course, but EVERY team, regardless of makeup, has room for a player of his caliber.
Oh, and on top of these players and a few others, they also have one of the nicest coaches in the league (which is the biggest problem IMO).
Way too much nice.
We saw it again last night.
