Not that I believe it, or that I want it to happen as I'd rather have Dougie. But if Snow is thumbing up his nose at the prospect of Hamilton in return given his predicament, he's completely out of his mind. If that's his mindset he'll never find a trade partner.
|
But Snow doesn't have to do anything. The player is under contract and is playing. If he doesn't get the return he likes, he can just have Hamonic play the next 5 years for the Islanders. If Hamonic wants to go to Winnipeg he can retire and go tomorrow.
And anyone who thinks that Hamilton is as good as Hamonic surely has rose colored homer glasses on. Hamilton is all potential. Hamonic is potential already being fulfilled. The way Hamilton is playing right now, he has a LONG way to go to ever being the player Hamonic is already.

This is true, but if Hamonic threatens to retire if he doesn't get the trade, it is almost certain Snow is going to trade him for whatever he can get than lose a legitimate top 4 defender for nothing.

I've said it before it reminds me a little bit of the Vanek situation. He sticks to his guns and gets hosed because he waited too long and didn't take the best deal available.

Based on what? Both had career years last season, what are you comparing that makes Hamonic head-and-shoulders better than Hamilton? Possession stats? Oh, well, yeah Hamilton beats Hamonic there. Offensive production? Um... The thing is, they're different styles of defenceman, so to make such a direct comparison is unfair to both.

You keep saying Gio is a top 4 and I think the only reason you're saying that is because you're being very nearsighted about things. For the past couple of years Gio has been our #1 guy and now that he's had a bad 20 games he's slid down and is only "top 4". I think you have to take a lot of things into consideration before you take Gio away from that #1 spot; he's still battling an injury, the entire team is bad, he can't play the same game because of his injury, the team isn't working as hard....there are a lot of things to consider before you can say he isn't a #1 guy and I think GM's know this too. Hamonic may get the most minutes on the team but is he really a legit #1 guy? Hamonic is a really got top 4 guy and I say top 4 because I don't think he'd be on the top pairing in Calgary. Even though Gio is playing bad, I"m willing to bet that 29 other teams would love to have him on their team.
The over valuing of Hamonic has to cool off a bit around here.
|
I agree that he's more than a top 4 guy right now, but how can we be sure that he won't be more than a 3-4 guy in two or three years? It's entirely possible, and that's why I called him a top 4 guy.

Reminds me of another overrated "minute eating" Islanders defenseman in Andrew MacDonald. I bet the Flyers now wish they didn't buy into the hype.

Anyone else almost starting to hate Hamonic because of the ridiculous rhetoric being spewed out by the talking heads and many on this board?

Id love to see a top 4 of Gio - Brodie - Hammy - Hammy 2. I just don't think we have what it takes to get the deal done. Which is fine, I'm still pretty confident that one of... kylington, Hickey, Anderson, Kulak, Culkin, etc. develops into a top 4. Numbers are on our side now it's just the waiting game.

If there is a good deal to be had for Hamonic, great, do it. Hamilton for Hamonic is not a good deal btw. If not, I'll lose no sleep. Nor will Flames management I am sure.

Maybe, but he's done some surprisingly good trades as well. Leddy and Boychuk for spare change, getting the picks for Reinhart.

Hamilton and Hamonic needs to happen just because. Maybe they can pick up Hammond in goal.

But in the Leddy, Boychuk, and Reinhart trades, Snow wasn't the one in a position of weakness, the other GMs were.

The Reinhart trade got me thinking on timelines? Do we know if Snow knew of Hamonics request when Reinhart was moved?

Probably not or at least he didn't have the time to explore it in depth. The draft would have been the best time to move him.

True. But even with that the return was good. And the Oilers weren't exactly in a position of weakness, they had the advantage of being at the bottom of the barrel.

Nothing beats having a player on ones team who doesn't want to be there and the entire public knows. The fact it is out is awkward for both the team and the player so hanging on to Hamonic is not as easy as you make it sound
Also Dougie Hamilton last year played over 21min a game against teams top opposition and acored 42pts in 72 games which is a better season than the 3 year older Hamonic ever had. Dougie has a ways to go to be the player he was last year which is a better player than Haminic ever has been.

Eh... as soon as the Oilers called Snow asking about Reinhart after the Hamilton trade was done, they were in a position of weakness.

I can see Anaheim acquiring Hamonic under the provision that they flip him to the Wild/Flames/Oilers/Jets for something they need in return.
They could swap Hamonic for Fowler(2 years younger than Hamonic with a similar cap hit) and then trade Hamonic to the Wild/Flames/Oilers/Jets for something they need. A 3 way trade. Looks more likely than a straight swap suggestions at the moment I think.

Doubt Anahiem does the Flames or Oilers any favours unless they overpay.

Except is Anaheim doesn't need Fowler they don't need Hamonic. And any team that wants Hamonic would also like Fowler...
I see two separate deals. Fowler for Strome and Hamonic for picks and prospects
