Brodie, Muzzin, you can't be serious

Hanifin would easily be in the top 4 in Toronto
The point is they are set at top 4. You might like Hanifin over Brodie or Muzzin but they aren’t bottom pairing D either.

Flames need a RW but they also need a solid top 4 D. You’d create a hole to fill a different one.

Which is why basically I think you’d have to be blown away on a RW offer for Hanifin. It’s gotta be top line RW, which I doubt many teams are offering.

At the end of the day I think Treliving and Sutter put a lot of work into solidifying the D. Hanifin, Tanev and Weegar acquired for the top 4, to complement Andersson who is more or less home grown, Zadorov for the bottom, with Kylington. I don’t think it should be messed with for a guy to play wing with the second line. I just think that role’s easier to plug in.

I still don’t like our top line… really was hoping to replace Tkachuk.

Well I disagree...their top 4 isn't very strong IMO

Murray is gonna get lit up, they will be looking to make a move

If you trade Hanifin and Dube for Nylander, you have zero cap space, with only a 20-man roster. You can't run 82 games with a 20-man roster.

It doesn't work.

We all want a team with all elite talent at every position, especially top line, but very few teams have it.

TB has 2 elite Cs and an elite RW. After that - good but not elite. Toronto plays two elite or near elite pairs on the top 6 and fills in the other winger position. Avs have an entire elite top line depending on deployment. But Landeskog often moves down a line.

AND, that top line RW has to come cheaper than Hanifin, or you blow the cap.

There would need to be more moves involved...it was just an example of the kind of player it would take...for me

Yeah, that’s why I think there are almost no deals to be made that are worth it. A team with (a) an elite or near elite RW who is $5M or so, and that (b) also needs D help so much that they will part with valuable commodity (a).

To the bolded, yes. Of course.

And yeah, lots of arguments for reasons why a trade like that wouldn’t happen. But the idea behind it isn’t stemmed in hating Hanifin, or under appreciating him at all.

You really sound butt-hurt about this.

No one said YOU were under appreciating Hanifin, simply that many fans are.

Another weird one…I’m really not. My first post was saying that I don’t see anyone under appreciating Hanifin. Are you okay?

You also have to replace Hanifin. Not many guys ready to step into a top pairing role put up 45 plus points and play against the other teams best players.

No way they trade any of the top 6. Sutter even said at the end of the season press conference that we needed a more experienced back end.

I don't think anyone saw a 300 goal team last season, some even said we might score 200. This team is much better and deeper on paper, and the high shot volume Sutter employs along with better transition from the back end should keep our scoring in the top 10 I think.

Salim from TSN said he still thinks a forward for Dman trade happens but I also think with the Milano, Eakin PTO’s and the Ritchie signing I have doubts a trade happens

I think they need to figure out if Weegar is signing or not.

We went into the offseason looking to add to the back end, why would we trade from it now?

If we trade someone now Michael Stone is in your lineup every night. The team was pretty fortunate in terms of injuries last year, so we are now an injury away from Valamaki or Mackey in lineup along with Stone.

Maybe it's just me but Mackey - Stone sounds like a decent/average 3rd pairing around the league.
