He's been mailing it in all season. Surely you don't think he is playing to his full potential? Who cares if he's leading the team in points. He doesn't backcheck, is weak on the boards, rarely shoots, and doesn't make nice ''playmaking'' passes like he used to. He has a grand total of 4 shots in the last 5 games, and 38 in 34 games overall. He has 2 PP points all year, so he sure isn't helping us on special teams.

I get that he is leading the team in points. But it doesn't matter if you don't play to your full potential. We've all seen him at his best, and no one is going to convince me that he's putting forth a solid effort each and every night.

Tanguay exemplifies what is wrong with this team. He's soft, plays with no fire/heart, and coasts. The Flames need players who play with heart and want to win/be here. Tanguay doesn't appear to be any of those (And I'm a huge Tanguay fan who wanted him back ever since he left the first time).

I really hope he isn't. Tangs, like Glencross and Cammy, are guys I wouldn't want to "mentor" a youth movement the Flames need.

If it isn't Tanguay, Cammalleri, Stempniak, then it'll be fairly similar players in terms of age and production potential on contracts that are like 2 years 5M. It would be different if there were a ton of NHL ready guys in the organization but there aren't.

Add in maybe a couple guys who will be drafted in June who can step in right away, Baertschi, Horak, maybe Gaudreau (though I don't remember the last NCAA player to make the jump right to the NHL and stick) and that is five. Maybe one or two young players they can pick up during the summer and you still need at least another 7-8 forwards. Might as well be Glencross, Tanguay, Cammalleri, Comeau or whatever if they want to be in Calgary and will be good with the young guys coming in. If they want out the move them, but if not, I don't see the harm in them staying.
The Flames have missed the playoffs for 4 straight years now.

Players that have been here for at least 3/4 of those years:
Iginla, Stajan, Glencross, Tanguay, Jackman, Bouw, Sarich, Gio, and Kipper.

2/9 are gone. Sarich is likely gone today. Mikka is likely gone today or at the end of June.

Heading into next year you have Hudler, Cammy, Stajan, Glencross, Horak, Bartschi up front.

Gio, Wideman, Brodie on the blue line.

I agree you need players. However if you really want to turn the page. You can't move Batman and keep Robin.

A few people have said Tanguay would be a good fit in Detroit. Do you think he'd be enough to get one of their better forward prospects? Tatar, Sheahan, Jankrok or Nyquist?

I think maybe Jankrok or Sheahan.

I hope Tanguay stays. A top line of Tanguay, Hudler and Cervenka is not great, but it would take the focus off the young guys like Baertschi, Horak and such. You need those proven players to keep the opposition honest while the young players develop into the top line talent you expect.

Can just as easily make that top line Glencross/Cammaleri - Stajan - Hudler. Same effect.

No. Sorry to be harsh but this is as bad as people expecting Dougie Hamilton for Iginla.

Tanguay will get us nothing of value right now from any team. Especially one that has seen him play lately

That's fair, was just throwing out the idea. On the topic, how much more would need to be added with Tanguay to get one of those guys? I still think Tanguay has some value to a team looking for some depth on the wing.

That contract was such a bad idea from the start. It should have been matched to Iginla's term.

Buddy of mine thinks Tanguay is going to be the next captain. Thought he was joking at first, but he's dead set on it. I personally don't see Tanguay as a leader or a mentor for youth.

I'd move him and replace him with a Jagr/Whitney type player for 2 years and see how the rebuild is going.

Hartley didn't even give him an A this year, and he gave almost every veteran one

Tanguay will likely be here next season mostly due to the length of his contract.
Personally i think he is one of those players when people talk about changing the culture of this team he is at the front of the list.
Perhaps he is looked at as a trade asset when a team is wanting to get under the cap but they would move a 5.5 to 6m player in exchange for his 3.5 much more moveable contract.
This off season is going to be a bit wacky for some GM's.

Even if he stays, I don't see a major problem. We need bodies and atleast some veterans.

I like Tanguay's skills, but the guy is not a good role model for younger guys coming into the system if he's not the hardest worker every game, every period. It really sucks to see him out on the ice most of the time just dogging it. I think the best years of his career left him the day Keenan stepped into the Flames organization.

Why wouldn't he be? Somebody has to be here that can handle NHL shifts.

It's good to remember that just throwing youngsters to the wolves isn't great for development. The Flames need to ice a somewhat competitive team that young guys can play a big role on, rather than a team where the young guys have to do everything.

Plus with Tanguay's style of play he could still be a decent player in a few years. He's only looked bad this year because he's been playing without a center.

The contract length was a joke when it was signed and it was the first sign to me that Feaster didn't know what he was doing.

Tanguay had no real choice to sign anywhere at the time. He wanted to play with Iggy. There was no reason to give him that term.

I guess the blame can't go completely on Feaster as it appears that Iggy wanted him, and Feaster had to make it happen. Tanguay owes Iggy big time.

Perhaps with the trading of Iginla, guys like Tanguay and Cammalleri will rise up and take on a bigger leadership role now that they're forced to, and help mentor whoever Calgary drafts in the top 5.
