After his half hearted play this year I would prefer if he was not here come October.

I would agree - if there is a deal to be made that is good for the Flames, then Alex will be dealt, if not, then he is just a body that can play for the Flames until the rebuild is done. His contract is not a boat anchor.

Yup, they turned Bertuzzi into a serviceable player and Tanguay is much better than Bertuzzi was in his time here.

Plus with Flippula a UFA likely going to command a big raise, and Datsyuk supposedly a question mark after this season, they could use the longer term help up front.

if you want to change the culture of the team, Tanguay should be moved

That's my #1 pet peeve with him. If there is someone on the team who is the poster boy for mailing it in and coasting for a paycheck, it's him. Sure he puts up points every once in a while, but when was the last time you saw a wicked pass like he used to do? Ever since Iggy got traded he's been playing with his head down and floating around. Get him outta here.

Tanguay's "half hearted" play has him at the top of the team for points and third for goals. Pretty good production considering how much the haters have to hate.

If Tanguay wants to be traded then by all means ship him off. Otherwise, I would be happy to keep him in the room as he has a good relationship with the coach, is supposedly a good locker room/team guy and is one of the few Stanley Cup Champions still on the team. It also wouldn't hurt to have a slick playmaker, who is willing to play in all situations, to se an example to the young talent we are hoping to bring in.

What are the conditions on his NTC anyway?

Millions was saying Tangs and Cammy came back to play with Iggy. He suspects both players could be asked to be moved with Iggy gone. Might have to take $$$ back but can see Alex on the move. If we can't get a team to take his contract as is and we have to take money back, could see something like Tangs to VAN for Ballard/Schroeder. We take a contract back but get a player (or pick) to build for the future.

I can't see anyone taking Cammy with his $6M cap hit next year.

You keep a guy like Tanguay around unless he sulks, but if he sulks I have to ask why did you sign that long of a term?

Anyway playmakers like him can really help with young offensive players, good for the rebuild.

Cammy didn't choose Calgary like Tanguay did. He has a NTC but it is one of those "give us 5 teams you won't go to" type deals. So when he was traded back to Calgary he didn't have any choice in the matter

I think he stays. I think he can still be a very effective player, in particular if he was given an actual center to play with.

Ever since Iggy got traded... so all of one game then. That's a totally significant sample size upon which to make a judgement.

I'm not opposed to seeing him moved but I think it's fine if he stays. He has a pretty good contract for what he produces offensively and I would imagine he would be able to help a MacKinnon a great deal playing on his left side next year. You don't want an 18 year old center coming into the league and playing with a bunch of other guys trying to prove themselves and adjust to the league. Thought the Pens were smart bringing in some veterans the year they drafted Crosby, guys like Recchi and Leclaire.

Same goes with Cammalleri. MacKinnon between those two would be a great line and a great way for him to start his career.

Surely there is interest in a guy like Tanguay, I just feel he isn't the type of guy we need right now. Although surely if we slot a top young centre with him next season it might be increase the odds of a successful season.

I guess I don't understand the people who just want to trade everyone. The Flames have no more than 3 or 4 players outside the NHL right now who can even come close to playing at that level so who exactly are we expecting to be on the team next year? If it isn't Tanguay, Cammalleri, Stempniak, then it'll be fairly similar players in terms of age and production potential on contracts that are like 2 years 5M. It would be different if there were a ton of NHL ready guys in the organization but there aren't.

Add in maybe a couple guys who will be drafted in June who can step in right away, Baertschi, Horak, maybe Gaudreau (though I don't remember the last NCAA player to make the jump right to the NHL and stick) and that is five. Maybe one or two young players they can pick up during the summer and you still need at least another 7-8 forwards. Might as well be Glencross, Tanguay, Cammalleri, Comeau or whatever if they want to be in Calgary and will be good with the young guys coming in. If they want out the move them, but if not, I don't see the harm in them staying.

Still have Cammy, Hudler, Tanguay, Glencross, and Stempniak for Veteran wingers though. Think you should probably move one, maybe two, of those guys out prior to the start of the year next season.

I don't think we have much choice in the matter...his contract length is undesirable to most teams (I would imagine), so unless we pay someone to take him, so to speak, he's not getting traded.
Like many people have said already...we still need to ice an "NHL caliber" team for the rest of the season and into next year.
